Pleasantly busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Scapa Special4.20AcceptableI don't really get on well with a number of Highland beers - to me they can be thin, dry and grainy. This was one of them.
18 Apr 2013 (McGargle)
Busy. Quick service from two hard-working staff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Pale Ale4.70Excellent
11 Apr 2013 (McGargle)
Very busy for Big Band Lier from Belgium. Great night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cromarty - Happy Chappy4.10GoodBeer of the evening but a little sweeter and less hoppy than previous examples.
04 Apr 2013 (McGargle)
Quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Red MacGregor4.00GoodAs good as Red McGregor gets. Good bitterness, rich autumn fruits.
28 Mar 2013 (Ray)
Raven had (luckily) just gone off. Couldn't wait 15 mins for the replacement.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale3.80Not Tried
21 Mar 2013 (McGargle)
Asked the barman what was on the unmarked cask font to be told it was 'cat's piss'. Wonder why there were only two other customers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - 3 Sisters Scottish Ale (Atlas range)4.20AcceptableServed cold but a completely acceptable malty ale.
17 Mar 2013 (McGargle)
Very quiet in the bar. Dead really.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Orkney IPA4.80GoodHopy and bitter. Quite dry.
07 Mar 2013 (McGargle)
Busy for the jazz - quiet in the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Corncrake Ale4.10PoorThin and slightly astringent. A 1/2 was quite enough and didn't get finished.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Dark Island4.60UndrinkableBadged as Corncrake this was from the bottom of the cask. Tired and tasteless. Staff exchanged it but wanted to charge ne again. No, thank you.
28 Feb 2013 (McGargle)
Almost deserted.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale3.80Not TriedDidn't bother.
19 Feb 2013 (McGargle)
Mid-evening and we were the only customers in the bar. Not usually the spot form a jolly night out.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Island Hopping3.90GoodNo pump clip to show that any real ale was available but a polite enquiry revealed that this hoppy favourite was 'on'. I do wonder why pubs who offer real ale sometimes don't promote them better.
