Really lively, friendly crowd. Good to see the landlord Dave back in here. Haven't seen him for about 6 months and the pub seemed to be slipping without him. A strange man kept trying to dance with me, it was a little off-putting.
Daleside - Starbeck Stout | 4.20 | | Roasted malt with hints of chocolate and coffee. Good stout, although it could do with a little more body. |
Hop Back - Summer Lightning | 5.00 | | Grassy, hoppy flavour with a slight alcohol finish. This is a good beer, but not sure it deserves all the hype it gets. |
Archers - Golden Bitter | 4.70 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Kentish Reserve | 5.00 | Not Tried
29 Mar 2008 (Blair)
Pretty busy with a good atmosphere. Still not as good as it was in the past, but better than it's been recently.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Storm Warning | 5.00 | | Delicious, dark and chocolatey. Viscous and creamy. |
Loddon - Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried

24 Feb 2008 (Blair)
Fairly quiet, I was a little on the tipsy side by this point so didn't notice much else.
Ossett - Excelsius (was Excelsior) | 5.20 | | Gold with a thick white head. Sweet floral hop aroma, slightly soapy. Crisp grainy hop taste. Good bitter finish. |
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
17 Feb 2008 (Blair)
Fairly busy at around 4. Had a good selection of ales on.
Oakham - Delirium | 5.20 | | Red brown colour, quite hoppy and sweet. Decent enough beer. |
Loddon - Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried
Hampshire - Fall Over | 6.00 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
28 Jun 2007 (Andrew)
Busy with a mixture of young and old. The music was lively and loud and the atmosphere was good
Swansea - Deep Slade Dark | 4.00 | | Black with a minimal head. Had a chalky sheen to the surface. Tasted powdery with a base-bitterness to it and a slight hint of blackcurrent. |
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Hole Hearted | 4.70 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried

22 Mar 2007 (Andrew)
Fairly busy with most of the people sitting around the bar.
Loddon - Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter | 4.10 | | I really liked this. It had strong hints of vanilla pod and tangerine with a fruity hop finish. |

What a great pub and this is the first time I've noticed they have a down-stairs. It was fairly busy around the bar so I sat up above it. Led Zep and Pink Floyd were playing on the juke box and the air was thick with smoke. Alaistair was at the bar rubbing in the fact that only he knew when Whitsunday was.
Northumberland - Fog on the Tyne | 4.10 | | A golden beer with no head that smelt of wet hay. Tasted of wild strawberries with hints of kiwi and subtle mandarine. The finish was short lived and had a sweet mandarine bitterness to it. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - DogBolter Dark Porter | 5.60 | | I had this for the first time really 5 days ago at the Dover Beer Festival and this just goes to show you can't define a pint of real ale by trying it once. This was a totally different pint. Imagine drinking alcoholic raisens with the sugar taken out, combined with burnt parsnip and with a rich dark dry sherry bitter finish. It was nothing like the Dover beer. I must have more before I make my mind up about it. |
Branscombe (was Branscombe Vale) - Anniversary Ale | 4.60 | Not Tried
Cottage - Between the posts | 4.60 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
20 Apr 2006 (Andrew)
Fairly busy and friendly. I came in carrying a plastic bag and one of the regulars thought I'd brought in a Chinese to share with him. Heard a great quote from a drunk bloke opposite: 'Fundamentally, it might or might not'.
Itchen Valley - Easter Bunnies | 3.90 | | Smelt of sour malt (in a good way). Brown beer with a short lived head. As for taste ...think of any brown best bitter and you'll have it. |
Oakleaf (now see Fallen Acorn entries) - Hole Hearted | 4.70 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
Nelson - Nelsons Blood | 6.00 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
02 Feb 2006 (Andrew)
An early evening visit. Only a handful of people in so we sat upstairs. Very cosy pub.
Cottage - Great Western | 4.80 | | Dark ruby brown beer. A slight caramel taste followed by mellow burnt sugar. Slight hop finish with an alcoholic glow on the tonge |
Cottage - Goldrush | 5.00 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
22 Dec 2005 (Andrew)
Last pub in my mini-ramsgate tour. Great split level pub with the upper level full of seating and the lower with bar stools. If I lived in Ramsgate this would be my local! I'm sure I saw Eddie Gadd walk in.
Archers - Top Tipple | 5.00 | | Strong malt bitter taste followed by strong alcohol flavours |
Burton Bridge - Burton Porter | 4.50 | | Black beer with a bit of damson and a bit of liquorish. |
Burton Bridge - Bridge Bitter | 4.20 | Not Tried
Nelson - Friggin in the Riggin | 4.70 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
