BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Bell's Kalamazoo Black Silk4.00GoodBlack in colour, very sweet initial taste, with toffee and butterscotch, perhaps a little too much diacetyl flavour. Rather thin body and lack of hoppiness makes it a bit off style for a porter, so more like a sweet toffee mild in taste. My score 15/20.
Caledonian - Odell 90/-5.30AcceptableRed/bronze in colour with a fairly sharp piney hop character. Some roasted malt in the background but the two flavours did not balance well together giving a rather harsh taste. Dry, piney finish. My score 14/20.
07 Oct 2011 (oz11)
Afternoon, quick service by competant staff. Seven festival ales available. An often variable Spoons sets a good standard on this visit. Coming soon were Adnams American Style IPA and Belhaven St Andrews Ale.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Pendle Porter5.00ExceptionalThoroughly enjoyable strong porter, pick of the day.
St Austell - Proper Black5.00ExcellentHate the name for the style (Black...India Pale Ale?) but enjoyed the beer.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Bend Eclipse4.80ExcellentCan't find out where in the UK this was brewed, if anyone knows for sure I will edit this entry accordingly. Good beer. Edited to reflect who brewed it.
Shepherd Neame - Fat Head's Yakima Sun5.00Excellent
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Whakatu3.70GoodA little thin, but not unpleasant, and quite refeshing.
Lees (see also JW Lees) - The Governor3.80AcceptableVery appley, not sure if it wasn't served too early.
Batemans - XB3.70Not Tried
05 Oct 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Fairly quiet late afternoon for the official festival start.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Austell - Proper Black5.00GoodA better example of a black IPA. Black in colour with roasted malt flavour vying with bitter hops for attention. Dry finish. My score 15/20 with B for quality - served flat with no condition and slightly too cold.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Bend Eclipse4.80AcceptableBrewed at Everards, but the American brewer was stuck in the USA because of hurricane Irene! Red/brown in colour, quite bitter with citrus notes but not much in the way of dark malt flavour. Dry, bitter finish. My score 14/20 with B for quality - served flat with no condition and slightly too cold.

White - Franklins Dry Hop3.60GoodBrewery now called Edge with flashy new pumpclips. A bitter golden beer with some biscuity malt for balance. The finish is fairly dry and bitter. My score 15/20 with B for quality as served too cold in this outlet.
