Beer | ABV | Score | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Barons - Bush Berry Porter | 4.50 | Slightly better at a cooler temperature but still not amazing. Earthy qualities, cola sweetness and random bush herby notes. Something different though, which is what I want from an international brew. | |
Bend Brewing - Wild Blue Yonder | 4.80 | Poor example of this beer. I'd have been put off if this was my first go at this speciality brew. But I know its secret. I know how good it can be. | |
Caledonian - Raspberry Fool | 4.00 | Cool, light, refreshing, sweet and girly with a hint of artificial raspberry swirl - but not overdone. Felt right drinking it with my shades on. | |
Banks's - Yukon Brewing Lead Dog Ale | 5.50 | Again, not good. Lacking definition. | |
Wadworth - Pusser's Spearfish | 5.00 | Pale, malty and unremarkable. Didn't detect any rum at all. | |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Tiger Triple Gold | 5.00 | Pedestrian. 3 years spent in Leicester had me expecting a decent effort. Lighter than regular Tiger but that's the only noteworthy observation. Wishy hops, washy malts. |

The pub is found in Lee Green, Greater London, SE12 8SS.
In Leegate on the edge of the very dated Leegate shopping centre, standard smalltown Wetherspoon's fayre. Dark inside and toilets a good half mile away from the bar up a baronial hall style staircase. Outside seating provides a real hidden suntrap. 8 handpumps in 2 banks, each of 4. This Wetherspoon pub bears the name of one of England's greatest astronomers. Pub named after Edmund Halley, who gave his name to a now famous comet, and who lies buried in St Margaret's graveyard. Edmund Halley was born in 1656. His studies in astronomy and mathematics led him to be appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society, at the age of 22. Closed Friday 30th December 2022, specific immediate reason unknown but future of pub in existing guise uncertain as long standing plans for the redevelopment of the Leegate Centre, of which it is an integral part is always bubbling away.
We have visited this pub 91 times, seen 224 different beers and tried 103 of them.
