Not too busy, just enough to give a pleasant hum of conversation to enhance the great atmosphere of this historic pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thwaites - Nutty Black3.30ExcellentSweet and malty with hints of toffee and chocolate and low hop rate. My score 16/20 despite being served too cold and therefore awarded a "B" for quality.

Lively as offices close for the night. Great beer selection here but food + service very average.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Downton - Dark Delight5.50GoodNear black bitter. Malty and deep with a spicy roasted malt nose. A bit astringent after a while + a pint was enough.

What a superb interior. Victorian booths and panelling. Opulent is the word. We sat in a booth and marvelled at the space.

Quiet enough on a lunchtime, The Vic serves food and has no sports. Excellent range of Beer available, all in excellent condition. The drining and seating area is a pleasure to drink in. Pleasant Staff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Morrissey Fox - Proud of Pubs Best4.20ExceptionalSurprisingly excellent offering. Ruby in colour, with a thick, creamy head, this bitter starts out malty but has a lovely sweetness to the finish. Nice mouthfeel, and not much hops. One for Dark Mild or Mild lovers to seek out.
Sharp's - Atlantic IPA (now replaced by 4.2% Atlantic)4.80GoodNot really hoppy enough for a true IPA in my opinion, this is nontheless a pleasant, copper-hued beer with a light, tasty body tha would make a great session beer.
Cairngorm - Nessie's Monster Mash (superseded by 4.1% version)4.40GoodMahogany coloured, smoky bitter with a full body.
