Early evening and reverentially quiet in here. Normally I say that you come to a Sam Smiths pub to enjoy the surroundings but not the beer. Tonight I enjoyed both.

Once rather tatty, this pub has been beautifully restored by Samuel Smith’s, and has reverted to a four (or is it five?) bar layout. But the frontage is so austere that customers seem frightened away and there were only three or four other customers in the peak after work period.

Nice little pub just of Oxford Street. Old fashioned, high ceilinged, multiroomed kind of a place. The décor was a rich dark brown chocolate. I liked it.
