Took the dog to the see the sea for the first time, she chased a couple of floating gulls and got completely soaked, so we headed to the pub. Nice outside when the sun was out, busy inside with mainly diners.

After a nice walk up to the old lighthouse it was time for a half in the Coast Guard. The front faces east so wasn't in the sun which made sitting out a bit cold. Even so, it was bright and France was clearly visible.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Green Hop Ale (2012)4.80ExcellentPale amber colour. Excellent peppery hop bite; clean and crisp.

Lunchtime visit, bar area full of jolly locals. Xmas music and open fire. Food excellent, particularly the wild hare special. This place doesn't change year on year - but that's most definitely a good thing. The owners clearly take great pride in running a fine free house.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00ExcellentDelicious paradox ale. Lively fruity hops blended with coffee flavoured malts. I'm a big fan of this beer when it's on form like this.
Cotleigh - Red Nose Reinbeer4.50AcceptableRobust old skool premium ale with a hint of fruit cake. Served slightly on the cool side. Quite alright but not particularly memorable.
Whitstable - Christmas Cake4.60AcceptableLight brown, sweet and spicy. Palatable but could perhaps be a little fruitier.
Westerham - General Wolfe 1759 Maple Ale (superseded by lower abv version)4.30Not Tried

We took Isabel down to the see the sea. It was misty with occasional ferries steaming in and out of fog banks. France was out there somewhere! The pub was busy in the saloon bardining room but we managed to find a spot. Staff were friendly.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50ExcellentGood quality Skrim. Hints of peat and reed with slightly sweet malt body and subtle earthy hops on the finish.

Sat outside in the sun. Although I didn't have any cask beers, I did have a couple of the Mikkeller single hop variety beers in bottle as well as a Rochefort 8 in bottle with a proper Rochefort glass as well.

The better half and I just love this pub. An unbeatable view of the choppy English Channel and Belgian/French coastline on a clear day. Your mobile thinks you're on the continent. It was bitingly cold outside and the bar was a warm and cosy haven. Only two to choose from this time but Scottish ale in evidence once more. How on earth does the beer lorry get down that hair-raising corkscrew hill?
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Dominator5.10ExcellentMy first crack at this and most impressive. Deep brown and robust strong ale. Does everything your tongue wants it to do. Reminiscent of Grainstore Ten Fifty.
Broughton - Winter Fire4.20GoodGorgeous dark ruby appearance, I just wanted to sit and admire it. If you strained you could just about pick out the dark berries and subtle spices. Good enough but could have done with a bit more clout.

Phil told me that the Brew Dog beers were on so I popped down after work for a couple. Quiet when I got there, livened up and I ended up talking to the ex-Sales Director of Brake Bros where I used to work. Good evening, but cycling back to Martin Mill station was a bit of a trek.

BrewDog - Punk IPA6.00ExceptionalThe hops on the end of this are to die for. Love it. Just so drinkable even if it is 6%.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Dark Island4.60ExcellentGood malty dark beer in great condition.
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Scapa Special4.20GoodFruity strong pale ale. Really quite good. Some toffee, some moderate hop on end. A traditional pale ale.
BrewDog - The Physics5.00PoorFull of diacetyl. Shame as the condition and hops on finish were excellent.

A warm summers evening and as the beach emptied we wandered over to the pub and sat on the balcony with our beer.

Got to the beach before the sun went down and saw a lovely pale blue-silver shimmering sea. Ate in the pub that was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday evening. Good place to eat and drink.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Grand Union - One Hop Strisselspalt4.50ExcellentThis was great. Very heathery hop with hints of metalic minerals, orange peel and toasted nuts. Soft frothy mouth feel without being at all fizzy. I could have drunk this all night. In fact, I did. Great stuff.

The pub is found in St Margaret's at Cliffe, Kent, CT15 6DY.

The Green Man was an ancient building which was all but destroyed during WWII by friendly fire and commandoes' training. Rebuilt in the early 1950s, sited at the foot of a steep hairpin bend road, this building may not look like much, but the setting (on a beautiful bay) and the beer inside make it a wonderful stop especially in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the view over the sea and up to the white chalk cliffs. Taken over by Shepherd Neame some time during early 2016 then closed for immediate refurbishment and reopened around Easter 2016. Renamed in 1971.

We have visited this pub 23 times, seen 47 different beers and tried 28 of them.
