There is another beer festival in progress here, mainly focussing on some rather routine European keg beers, it also has an interesting line-up of around 10 cask beers from London brewers. But there are some unspecified problems with the stillage, and only two are available.

Florence - Tommy IPA (branded as A Head In A Hat Brewing)4.20ExcellentA tasty, full-bodied bitter, based upon a 1914 IPA recipe and using Kentish WGV hops.

The opening session of London’s most anticipated beer festival of the year so far. 32+ beers from 20+ London brewers are expected over the four days – although if tonight’s huge crowds remain typical, I cannot see the supplies running the course. Most beers on gravity dispense from a stillage, some on keg or bottle.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ellenberg - Arch Three4.90ExcellentTest brew for forthcoming brewery – free samples available from bottles. A near black beer in the Schwarzbier style. Fruity, sweetish malt with a bitter finish.
Ellenberg - Arch Five5.80ExcellentTest brew for forthcoming brewery – free samples available from bottles. A dark wheat beer with a smoky hint. Quite possible a unique combination of flavours.
Weird Beard - Five O'Clock Shadow6.90ExcellentTest brew for forthcoming brewery – free samples available from bottles. A copper-coloured beer with a bit of a hop haze. Intensely hopped in IPA-style. Fruity.
Brew Wharf - Calypso5.50GoodBrewed ‘in collaboration’ with Brodie’s of Leyton. Pale in colour, single-hopped with the intensely bitter Calypso hop from the USA.
Moncada - Notting Hill Bitter4.30GoodNote that the correct spelling of the brewery name is Moncada. A decent, traditional bitter, raised a notch by the use of classy bittering hops. Quite dry.
Signature Brew - The General3.90GoodCrisp and hoppy golden bitter.
Signature Brew - Clear Heart4.50AcceptableFull-bodied, golden beer with a spicy yeast taste.
Meantime - London Pale Ale4.30Not TriedWidely rumoured to be brewed under contract at Adnams.

The pub is found in Shoreditch, Central London, EC2A 3SQ.

The Strongroom is a well-renowned recording studio in the heart of Shoreditch, established in 1984 and somewhere along the way acquiring its own bar. There is drinking space on two levels in the former warehouse, with a large and secluded courtyard with pavement tables. Does not usually sell ‘real ale’.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 18 different beers and tried 8 of them.
