A beautiful evening, and where better to enjoy it than a Thames-side pub. Mind you, it got cool later and we were glad of the open fires inside.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Beavertown - Gamma Ray (keg)5.40ExcellentOn keg dispense. Is there a better regularly-brewed APA-style beer in London? I don’t think so.
Sambrook's - Jugged Hare (house beer for ETM Group)4.20GoodA Pale Ale that is quite full-bodied for its strength.

I met up with a friend here after work and we were fortunate enough to get a table on the rear decking with river views. I really do like this pub, although you pay for the views and the good service and the excellent beer etc..
BeerABVScoreNotes
Long Arm - IPA OK5.00ExcellentAmber-coloured. Tropical fruit from US hops and a long bitter finish. Good enough to have two.
Vibrant Forest - Chinook5.00GoodDispensed from some form of keggery. A very cloudy, yellow/gold colour. In your face hop flavours.

Early to mid-evening and very busy. Mostly drinkers, but several tables taken in the restaurant area. A large group of German tourists crowd in.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Northern Monk - Chennai Export Porter5.40ExcellentA great, near-black, strong Porter (a ‘Stout Porter’ perhaps?).
Gun - Parabellum Milk Stout4.10ExcellentI momentarily thought the pub had started brewing when I saw this, before I remembered the Gun Brewery from Sussex. A sweetly coffee flavoured, black Milk Stout.

Early evening visit to take advantage of the warm weather. Lots of other people have had the same idea though and I can’t get anywhere near the riverside decking.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - American Sister5.20ExcellentOn ‘keg’ dispense – probably a key-keg I would guess, given that it is not over-carbonated. Very good US hop flavours.
Long Arm - IPA OK5.00GoodGolden. Full-bodied. Malt, rather than hops, dominate.
Long Arm - Birdie Flipper4.50AcceptableHmmm! A Red Ale.

Evening late after 11. Only customer in. Friendly bar staff and lots of activity setting out dining tables for tomorrow.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sambrook's - Jugged Hare (house beer for ETM Group)4.20GoodSeemed rather fresh. I was pleased to see that the provenance of this house beer was clearly stated, even so far as having its own beer mats

There is a small beer festival on here and I am able to visit in mid-afternoon before the crowds build up.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Beer Co. - Wild Goose Chase4.50ExcellentA very cloudy, yellow colour. Tart and sour, with gooseberry tastes.
WharfeBank - Black Hawk4.50ExcellentA very nice Black IPA that went down well.
Anarchy - Simcoe4.10ExcellentExcellent, full-on, lemony, Simcoe hop flavours. And in great condition from the stillage.
WharfeBank - Ro Sham Bo4.20GoodA pale ‘Session IPA’.
Rebel - Gold Top Milk Stout4.50AcceptableReddish-brown in colour. A bit of vanilla in the flavour and a touch of lactose sweetness (this is a Milk Stout). Chocolate. But flavours suffer from rather flat condition off the stillage.

The large terrace to the side of the pub is open this evening for viewing of the tall ships arriving into London, and it proves to be a really good vantage point over a couple of pints.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Arbor Ales - Blue Sky Drinking4.40ExcellentExcellent Best Bitter; one where the word ‘best’ actually means something.
Moncada - Notting Hill Porter5.00ExcellentA black, richly-flavoured Porter. Loads of coffee and chocolate flavours.

Early to mid-evening visit. There is an interesting beer festival underway, featuring only un-fined beers. Four on handpump and eight on a stillage set up on the riverside decking. Another ten or so due over the weekend. Some special kegs and bottles too, although I did not venture that way. Not overcrowded.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Windswept - Weizen5.20ExcellentA thick, orange-coloured Wheat Beer. Bananary.
Brew By Numbers - 11/03 Session IPA: Mosaic4.50ExcellentNice to see BBN on cask. Lush hop flavours.
Arbor Ales - S Bomb5.00GoodA cloudy gold colour. Great hoppy smell. Nice bitter and citrus hop flavours.
Gyle 59 - Toujours4.00GoodA cloudy golden colour. Slightly sour. Spicy and peppery hops. A bit yeasty. More bitter than is usual for a Saison.

The pub is found in Docklands & Isle of Dogs, Greater London, E14 9NS.

The Gun was established in 1710 and had a succession of names, including King & Queen, Rose & Crown and Ramsgate Pink, before settling on the Gun name in 1770. In the nineteenth century it belonged to Messrs Hodgson & Co., brewers of Bow – the famous exporters of India Pale Ale. In more recent years it was an Ind Coope house. Today the pub retains a very traditional feel, if somewhat up-market. There are a variety of rooms to chose from, as well as a riverside terrace affording wide views across to the Millennium Dome. Restaurant standard food available and the operation does seem food-led. 4 handpumps on the bar counter in the front room off the street. Sold by ETM Group to Fuller's in summer 2016, after running it for 12 years.

We have visited this pub 14 times, seen 83 different beers and tried 33 of them.
