Very quiet, barman apologetic, only one ale one, nice looking pub but a bit bleak with only two customers.

I have had some business in Hull Docks and find myself with two hours to break down before my train home. My first instinct in Hull is always to come here. Quiet in the late afternoon, although a darts match is in progress in the back room.

Established in 1729 this is the oldest pub in Hull still trading – a very detailed history of the premises appears on the pub website. It stands on the High Street, once the main thoroughfare, but now something of a backwater just off the town centre. Has separate front and back rooms and features on CAMRA’s listing of historically authentic pub interiors.
