Early evening in this cosy comfy pub with a crackling log fire to warm the soul. Busy in both bars with Christmassy groups compared to The White Horse.
| Shepherd Neame - Christmas Ale | 5.00 | | Peppery fruity spiced ale with a hint of cloves, dates and prunes. |
| Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

Very pleasant in the patio area on a sunny bank holiday afternoon.
| Shepherd Neame - Dragonfire | 4.50 | | I thought that this was a new Shep’s brew for me - but this site knows better! The pump clip said “malty, citrus, hoppy” trying to cover all bases it seems. I got citrus and hoppy, in a well kept pint. I’m sure the recipe has changed since the pint I had in the Shakespeare in 2015. |

Late afternoon a family group in ordering a meal, one other chap at the bar soon joined by another who made more loud noise than the baby with the family.
| Shepherd Neame - Hop County | 4.80 | | Described as caramel with tropical notes yet I found this sweet, tart more marzipan flavoured. |
| Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Shepherd Neame - Spitfire Gold (or Spitfire Golden Ale) | 4.10 | Not Tried | |

Sunday evening - more staff than customers. Looks pleasant enough.
| Shepherd Neame - Hog Island East Coast Pale Ale (No. 18 Yard Brewhouse) | 4.80 | | No Shep's provenance on the pump clip - bland. The marketeers have spent more time on this than the master brewers. |
| Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried | |

They had the Old Smokey on from the pilot brewery so I had to go.
| Shepherd Neame - Old Smokey | 4.20 | | More peaty smoke than like a bacon smoke decent smoked beer. Could have had a slightly better carbonation |
