Tonight is a fundraising event for the Hackney Winter Night Shelter and the pub is very busy in the early evening. Hackney folk are always very generous in their support for such charities.

I've been away from London for a few weeks, so was always going to visit a favourite pub tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Five Points - Railway Porter4.80ExcellentBliss.
East London (ELB) - East End Lager Unfiltered Pilsner5.00GoodFrom some kind of keg. Crisp and at the same time a bit buttery.
Hackney - Bears!4.40AcceptableFrom a keg. A good, chocolatey Porter, compromised by excessive carbonation.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Five Points - Railway Porter4.80ExcellentA rich, smooth, chocolatey Porter.
Five Points - South Pacific Bitter5.50GoodKegged. An aromatic, carbonated Bitter with NZ hops. John Smith's Smooth this ain't.

Pomona Island - APA Ekuanot/Chinook5.30GoodClear, pale gold. Bitter fruit hop flavours.
Little Earth Project (formerly Mill Green) - Green Hop Grisette 2019 (First Gold)3.90GoodFrom key-keg, although typically for Little Earth it has zero carbonation. Crisp and tart.
Little Earth Project (formerly Mill Green) - Green Hop Grisette 2019 (Northdown)3.90AcceptableFrom key-keg. This one has a significant brett flavour that is stretching my tolerance.

The pub is found in Hackney, Greater London, E8 1JH.

This pub was built in around 1866 and for many years was a Trumanís house. By the 1970s it was best known as a live music venue. The pub was refurbished in 1983 and by 1986 had been acquired by Banks & Taylor Brewery. Closed for five and a half years from 1998, it re-opened but led a precipitous existence until acquired by Milton Brewery in 2006. In May 2018 the keys passed to the nearby Five Points Brewery. It is a large, stone and brick building on a busy junction near Hackney Downs and Central railway stations. The long wooden bar has 6 handpumps (down from 16 in Miltonís time). There is a bar billiards table, a pizza kitchen and a small outside seating area beside the road junction.

We have visited this pub 75 times, seen 220 different beers and tried 153 of them.
