17:20 A pub I have wanted to visit for some time but the 17:00 opening time has thwarted me. An overnight in Buxton gave me the opportunity. Excellent, quirky, friendly and an excellent choice of beer.

A group of us were planning to visit here between trains at Stockport but in the end it was just me because whilst What Pub said the pub opens at 5pm the 2016 Good Beer Guide says it opens at 7pm on Saturdays and as there was no reply from the listed telephone number nobody else was prepared to risk using the down side exit from Stockport Station. I was in luck, the pub now opens at 5pm daily and the telephone number in the Good Beer Guide does not work, hence no reply. The pub appears to be safe hands for the foreseeable future with many customers from across the country dipping in to their pockets to buy shares at £500 each to keep the pub going. An excellent traditional boozer worth missing a train or two for.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Salopian - Boomerang6.90ExcellentAt 6.9% I was cautious about having a pint of this at the end of the evening but the barman recommended this beer. A magnificent pint.
Big Shed - Battlefield Gold3.80Good

Evening. Had passed many times and assumed a closed lost pub. Far from it - real bustle inside and alive with a folk jam session just about started. Obviously quirky but all the better for that. Poster up inside says the freehold owner (not licensee) wants to sell and a group is having a first pow-wow on 24th November to discuss a way forward.

What a surprise, there are no signs to tell you that this is a pub, it looks closed and I thought that it was and had been for years. Luckily I tried the door and much to my surprise it opened and inside there was a wonderful boozer with five ales on.
