Lunchtime- had some time to kill before our booked slot at the Tate Modern to see the Andy Warhol exhibition. Only wanted a drink so we sat outside by the river - unfortunately the bar there only had keg beer. Only noticed the hand pumps when I went in the pub for the loo - didnt really miss much.

This used to be such a characterful pub. Gives the impression in the main bar these days of being an identikit managed house. And it was £5:20 a pint.

A pleasant evening to be by the Thames and I sat upstairs on the roof garden for the first time. Pleased to find somebody here who, like me, remembered a time long ago when patrons of this pub and the Banker pub directly opposite on the City side used to try to shout abuse at each other across the water. The clientele of each pub used to refer to the pub opposite by a name which rhymed with its real name but began with a ‘W’.

Very, very busy, and it took quite a while to be served. I discovered that different beers are sold in the two main bars.
BeerABVScoreNotes
London Fields - Hackney Hopster4.20AcceptableNot in great condition. Lacked its usual bite and tasted a bit thin.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Frontier4.50AcceptableSoft-tasting keg lager. Over-carbonated. I was given a free third pint sample. Obvious Fuller’s malt taste – but not much else. Not as sweet as most British lagers.

Early Friday evening and the pub is packed, with most people outside. Rather bizarrely in the circumstances, we found a small room all to ourselves. 10% CAMRA discount claimed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Ghost Ship4.50ExcellentServed with a very creamy head – a big top-up required. Once the pint had settled down it proved to be very tasty.
Bespoke - The Anchor4.40GoodGolden, malt-heavy, house beer.
