Afternoon. Got here before a friend who had never visited Newark before for pubs and had dallied in the nearby Tourist Information Centre. Cider added since last visit.

17:00 A new pub for me as was the Circus. We were the only customers inside. Friendly welcome, offered CAMRA discount without asking.

Evening. Thought I'd give it a try. Pleasant efficient young bar staff and quite a crowd in playing some board games.

An old Spillers grain barge converted to a pub on the The Wharf, a riverside terrace on terra firma leads to 2 gangplanks on to this vessel and the long narrow bar is downstairs and has 4 handpumps. Seating is mainly via back to back pews forming booths with tables in between. There is an airy windowed upper lounge too. Discount given to card carrying CAMRA members on real ale and cider.
