Early evening. The Public Bar is packed, with live football on TV. I watch some of the game in the Lounge Bar, which is spookily empty whilst the area is prepared for a ‘Christmas Party’ later in the evening – Christmas seemingly being celebrated in November these days.

Black Cat - Original4.20GoodAmber-coloured. A really good, crisp, malty and fruity Best Bitter.
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Devil’s Dyke Honey Porter5.00GoodA near black Porter. Fruity character, subdued honey and some roasted barley tastes too. Quite complex.
