Visits Details

14 Dec 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
A smallish Shepherd Neame pub tucked round the corner from the Iron Pier brewery after a parade or two of shops. My fourth or so visit to it but for the rest of our party from SE London, their first. Not overly busy for our early evening visit with sitting to be had. Warm, friendly and prompt service.

Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger5.00GoodVery good head and lacing. A very sweet first hit from its prunes, plums and dried apricot flavourings but with an overriding bitter mouthfeel winning over. Still hanging onto its sweetness in the aftertaste with also a touch of cinnamon.

My third visit of the day. Moderately busy footfall for early Saturday evening. Friendly welcome and prompt service. Just two Shepherd Neame real ales on with one seasonal.

Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50GoodHad also tried in Faversham, the Shepherd Neame Brewery's home. Superb head and lacing. A spicy hit on first tasting with a slight touch of berry fruits. Very moreish with a lingeringly dry and slightly fruity mouthfeel.

The pub is found in Northfleet, Kent, DA11 8BP.

A distinctive 18th century cottage-style pub in Vale Road. Almost looks as though it could be at home on the Isle of Thanet in having a Kentish red brick and flint exterior. Only one of its kind in local Gravesend area known of. Large "L" shaped bar area with restricted seating at the front of the pub running alongside the bar. There is a raised seating area at the rear which is roomier. Unusually, it seems to be a wet-only pub according to local CAMRA and on our visit on 2nd November 2024. A large garden gives children and dogs a space they are welcome in according to CAMRA. No dogs on the inside and not sure about children as not stated on the pub’s website. Typically, three beers from the Shepherd Neame range on with one including a seasonal ale or a special brew.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 3 different beers and tried 2 of them.
