Second stop: Just up the road some 15 minutes walk from the Harrow Inn at Steep is this quiet two-roomed pub overlooking a little hilly village green and village hall. As before when visited in July, a good line-up of real ales for its rural location on the outskirts of Petersfield in its modern-looking saloon bar. There is a separate public bar which is small and certainly more rustic-looking with its ceiling beams abounding. Prompt friendly service for our mid-afternoon visit to the sleepy village of Sheet. We sat inside the well ventilated and comfortable main bar. Most other punters were sitting outside in a walled garden with a lawn and benches across one of the lanes snaking round this Victorian-looking pub.

Dartmoor - Legend4.40GoodHead and lacing, very good, and lasting, good, on this Devon bitter from England's highest brewery in Station Road, Princetown. While the station is long-gone, the brewing tradition thankfully is alive and kicking. A fruity bitter first bite. A gentle maltiness coming to the fore along with a spice-infused malty note bobbing up and down with a hint of caramel. A dry hoppy bitterness winning over and a pleasantly hop-infused fruitiness drifting off down my hatch.

My second visit of the day just outside Petersfield. A quiet two-roomed pub with a somewhat plain modern-look in the saloon but the public bar was suitably rustic with ceiling beams abounding and to look the part of the old pub in the sleepy village of Sheet. Prompt friendly service for my mid-afternoon visit and they willingly changed a half-pint that had just gone off. That one did not look the part and indeed its pump-badge was turned around upon my return from the gents.

The station is long-gone but the brewing tradition thankfully alive and kicking. Lacing lasting to start with and so only fair. A dry bitter first hit. A gentle crisp maltiness rising up with the odd spice-infused malty note bobbing up and down. A hopped bitterness prevailing and a pleasantly dry fruitiness lingering alongside.
