| Marston's - Young's London Special (was Special) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood then Banks's | 4.50 | ![]() | Head and lacing at first on this now Burton-on-Trent brewed copper-coloured cask bitter but not lasting. A full-bodied bitterness rising from its British Fuggles and Goldings. A malty note racing up care of its Maris Otter and Crystal malts lending it a caramel and toffee sweetness. A very dry malty bitterness sliding down with a hint of stewed fruit. Palatable but not at its best as without much conditioning remaining in it as evidenced by the loss of its head and lacing. |

The pub is found in Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, KT1 2SF.
Spring Grove in Kingston at 13 Bloomfield Road can be dated back to 1867 when it was also a hotel. The pub itself used to comprise on the ground floor private and public bars with a serving bar, bar parlour, tap room and public room. Young’s Brewery bought the pub in 1896 and their most recent refurbishment was in November 2023. Gone are the separate bars on its ground floor as it is entirely open-plan with seating in three distinct drinking and dining areas. It does though retain stained glass windows, believed to be inter-war, and an open-plan room labelled ‘Tap Room’ has a stained-glass skylight and some original partition walls. The original 1892 plan of the pub can be seen in a frame on the wall at the entrance to this area. Cast iron and marble fireplaces adorn the main bar and ‘Tap Room.’ The sizeable bar counter features some carved floral-like patterns and the heads of lion-like carvings and with this repeated on some wooden panelled walls. The walls are also decorated with old photographs of street scenes and customers inside pubs of yesteryear and the old Surbiton and Kingston laundry in the local area of Spring Grove, plus one old photograph of the pub itself called Spring Grove Hotel with Young & Co’s old adverts displayed either side of the outside front entrance. A large garden with a covered decked area is to the rear. On a visit in February 2026, there were two guest ales on alongside Young’s London Original and London Special, and with the latter two now both brewed at the Marston’s Brewery in Burton-on-Trent. Food driven and served all day every day. Dog friendly and open fires for them to sit in front of.
We have visited this pub once, seen 4 different beers and tried 1 of them.
