Very relaxed atmosphere in this pub, it must be, I was here for nearly 6 hours. Beer is always good and Charlie is a really good landlord. Here with Andrew, Jane and Martin
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00GoodMid red brown with thin bubbly beige head. Some nice fruit, but a tad watery, good red fruits and hop. But still a tad thin. OK but normally a bit fuller and creamier
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 73.80GoodVery drinkable. Enough caramel and hop to keep you interested. Good session beer
Arundel - Sussex Mild3.70GoodBlack beer with thin dark beige head. Bit of dark toffee/treacle with lots of dark choc. More choc and some coffee in mouth with some grainyness. Not a lot of hop, but good mild though
Cottage - Southern Bitter3.70AcceptableHazy deep copper colour with thin disappearing head. Quite nice strawberry fruit and caramel. Quite rich like some Cottage beers

Came back for more Leviathan, only to find that it had all been drunk (mainly by the staff I hear).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00GoodAlways a good bet, but I was still bemoaning the lack of Leviathan.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50GoodNot bad I suppose, a bit like London Pride's slightly more sophisticated elder brother.
Beartown (latterly part of Manning Brewers) - Amberdextrous3.80Not TriedAlan (the other resident mild drinker) said it was very good but not as good as Black Cat. Should be spelt Am"bear"dextrous -geddit??
Whitstable - Oyster Stout4.50Not Tried

Whitstable - Oyster Stout4.50ExcellentGreat chocolate and coffee aroma and sweet aftertaste.

Called in on Friday when the beer was excellent, so found the time for a quick Saturday afternoon visit as well.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50ExceptionalAt risk of repeating myself, but this is great. A full citrus flavour that lingers. Charlie said it had a bit of a haze to it but it seemed perfect to me.
1648 - Original3.90AcceptableQuite dry, with some citrus, not much else happening though.
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00Not Tried

In for lunch and a couple of pints. There was a good atmosphere and the fire helped warm us up whilst the first pint kicked in. Had a chat with Brian who'd popped in for a quick one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Copper Dragon - Black Gold3.70ExcellentGood sweet burnt malt flavour with a burnt malt and bitter finish
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50GoodGood bitterness and that rich Hopdaemon taste. Perhaps one for a hot day.

Got there in the early evening and had a really nice plate of fish and chips. A handful of locals in who were all very friendly. Great pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00ExcellentTasted of lychee and melon. Not the usual taste I associate Incubus with but very nice it was anyway
Orkney (Sinclair) - Raven Ale3.80ExcellentAmber in colour with an aggresively bitter marmalade taste
Cottage - Howling Ale4.50ExcellentHad this here on Saturday and it wasn't half as good then as now. It now had a loverly gentle orange bitter taste.
Arundel - Sussex Mild3.70ExcellentCold creamy coffee with chocolate and a sweet bitter finish
05 Nov 2005 (Andrew)
Got there around lunch time and, not surprisingly, had some lunch (which was very good). A bit later we sat at the bar with Brian and Pete.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cottage - Howling Ale4.50GoodYou can't go too far wrong with a cottage. This one was amber in colour with a rich hop malt taste
Mauldons - Micawber's Mild3.50AcceptableA black mild with a bitter sweet taste. In the classic midlands style of mild but not my cup of tea.

Sorry, I'm starting to sound like the Yew Tree correspondent, but had to add a new beer.

Really good Saturday afternoon session, I always intend to go home earlier, but with such a range of beers available you just have to try them out.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild3.40ExcellentLovely dark chocolate and coffee aroma, good body and smooth finish.
Hopdaemon - Incubus4.00GoodNice foamy white head and dark body, lacks a bit in comparison to Hopdaemon's Skrimshander
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30GoodVery dry, and bitter, clear metallic taste, not enough happening for my taste though
Hop Back - Summer Lightning5.00Not Tried

Arrived about 3pm and sat at the bar with Jane, Brian. The beer was excellent as always but what's also great about coming here is that you get to meet lots of interesting people.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild3.40ExceptionalSmooth and black. Great burnt malt flavour and plenty of hops too. Can't beat it.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30ExcellentI'm not a Gadds fan usually but this was very good. Light and crisp with good bitter finish.
1648 - Bee-Head4.60ExcellentA golden beer with a rich herby taste to it.
