Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Philip PirripGood30 Aug 2024 Very good but would no doubt have been bettered by not pouring through the 6th duff handpump
Philip PirripExcellent02 Jun 2022 At last back to a traditional beer from a traditional brewer. Tastes sooooo innocent

DosserExcellent28 May 2022 I think I stayed on this one for most of the day. But I could be wrong.

Philip PirripExcellent09 Oct 2017 In great form and a heavy nightcap
Philip PirripGood03 Nov 2012 The one "we" have all been waiting for. This was 1st of 2 and rather yeasty broken head
Philip PirripExcellent03 Nov 2012 2nd one (30 minutes after 1st) had a lovely head and a much fuller flavour than the 1st - oh how Real Ale teases us

The New Cross Turnpike, Welling, Greater London

Philip PirripExcellent05 Oct 2017 Could it really be the cask still on from my last visit. A taster proved not. A lovely slow drinking last beer nightcap
Philip PirripExcellent25 Sep 2017 A slow drinking strong treat

Martin the MildmanExcellent10 Nov 2012 Strong black winter warmer type ale, reduced in strength but none the worse for it. Rich and full bodied with sweet toffee and dried fruit flavours rounded off with a fruity finish. My score 16/20.

AlenomoreExceptional03 Nov 2012 The lovely young and very knowledgable serving wench was very keen for me to try this. She was enthusiastic and able to describe each ale on tonite. Not often you meet a woman this young who know's there ales! This sample, as per Mr Pirrips' notes, is a stonker of an ale. Top condition here with a lovely clinging frothy head. Always good to sample this one.
