Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingGood18 Jul 2026 4th beer of this visit: Came with good head and lasting lacing on this dark amber brown ale from a brewing operation set up in 1993 in Marlow Bottom, Buckinghamshire, and at Bencombe Farm from 1999. A dry malty first hit. A malty bitterness rising with hints of toffee, light cocoa and an earthiness full of roasted nuts from its Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts. A fruitiness winning over for me aided by its Goldings and Cascade hops. A sweet malty note joining in with a biscuity flavouring tinged with brown sugar, chocolate and toffee. A spicy hoppiness lingering. In top form.

James TGood05 Dec 2009 This was much better than the IPA. Good temp, not tired, plenty of chocco malts, interesting hop flavours, and pleasant lasting roasted finish in the mouth. Very sessionable.
