Hogan Sampling		08 Oct 2026	1st beer of this visit: Now its fifth night on for this Uckfield Best Bitter and it has not really had the chance to lose its head and lacing as very little was presented on its first day on, on Sunday. Just a smidgen of head on being served it. It tasted not too tired but overly toffee-flavoured for my liking with a prevailing maltiness throughout. Hogan Sampling		04 Oct 2026	2nd beer of this visit: Fresh on and only just a little head and lacing evident on this amber-gold coloured bitter from brewing launched in 2019 and starting its life from a humble home-brewing hobby inside a garden shed. Set up by three young gents who spent their boyhood years playing in a local spot called the "Three Acres", the operation at Little Goldsmiths Farm in Blackboys, is near Uckfield in the rural East Sussex countryside. A sample then led to a half but this sufficed. A hoppy bitter first mouthful on this beer originating from their first ever brew boiled in the copper in 2019. An earthy and gentle fruity hoppiness rising from the brewers tossing all-English varieties into the kettle leading to an earthy bitterness alongside floral notes of summer blossoms and rustic fields. On the swallow, this brew delivers a balanced, lingering bittersweet finish. A marry-up of traditional English barley and specialty Crystal malts lending a biscuity and nutty foundation. The Crystal malt also throws down a gentle dollop of caramel sweetness. A slightly sweetened bitterness lingering for me before the slide down my hatch. Perhaps just a tad too fresh to have developed its head and lacing here.

Hogan Sampling		30 May 2026	Served with good head and lasting lacing on this amber-copper hued East Sussex bitter from the Blackboys’ microbrewery set up in 2018 and which grew out of a garden shed. A very fruited bitter first hit. A dry bitterness shining through from its use of traditional English hops with one variety in on the mix lending it, its caramel sweetness and additionally aided by its malts. A fruity hoppiness joining in. A dry bitterness sailing out ably complemented by its British malted grains providing an earthiness. Served in very good nick.

Hogan Sampling		17 Jan 2026	Superb head and lacing and lasting on this East Sussex-brewed amber-coloured best bitter from Uckfield.* A dry bitter first hug off it! A very malty bitterness bounding up. Not in the least sweet and so any discerning bear might wish to sup this ale with a marmalade sandwich to complement its ever so merest hint of caramel! A good hoppy note necessitating my taste buds' approval from its mix of all-English hops. A very dry malty bitterness growling with a lip-smacking quality ambling downwards, making it almost like a dry cider. Very moreish! *Three Acre set up in 2019 and from growing up in a garden shed and branching out onto a working farm. This Best Bitter was one of their first alongside their Farmhouse Ale and Session Pale and first supplied to their local, The Blackboys Inn.
