A festival of Irish beers is in progress and a large crowd has gathered by early evening. Most of the beers are in cask form, available by gravity dispense on a stillage, and a few are in keg or key-keg. A really good event. I list only those beers which I drank myself.
Knockout - Chocolate Stout | 5.10 | | Great chocolate flavours. |
Knockout - Citra IPA | 4.50 | | Plenty of luscious Citra flavours. |
Farmageddon Brewing Co-op - Mosaic IPA | 6.30 | | Slightly flat condition, but very good taste. |
Dungarvan - Dark Mild | 3.60 | | Dark Mild with caramel flavours. |
Wicklow Wolf - American Amber | 4.80 | | From key-keg. Bittersweet. |
Hercules - Yardsman Belfast Pale Ale | 4.30 | | A sweetish, malty brew. |

The family were at a panto in Deptford so my brother and I went for a wander. Deptford high street seems to have only 1 pub, which just had larger taps, so we gave up trying to find a pub and decided to go look at the Thames. After wandering in the general direction of the river we turned a derelict corner and found this place. A real gem!

Titanic - Black Ice | 4.10 | | Black slightly sour porter. |

Elgood's - Cambridge Bitter | 3.80

My first visit here and I used the latest copy of the South East London Pub Guide (1994)to find it. According to the map I should have passed seven pubs on the way from the Railway Station, now there is just one left on the way, a place which my guide lists as Mamie O'Learys but now appears to be the White Swan. I was very impressed with the Dog and Bell, a proper pub with bar billiards and good value pub grub.
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Naked Ladies | 4.40 | | Superb, our group drank lots of this before it finally ran out. |
Elgood's - Cambridge Bitter | 3.80

Always a pleasure to visit this lovely little pub. I came in just after Sunday opening, beaten only by a couple of locals. But crowds are expected, a large table is laid for a 60th birthday lunch, and the smells of roasting meat and herbs from the kitchen are enticing.

Final Thursday evening mild drinkers gathering before Christmas.
Triple fff - Pressed Rat & Warthog | 3.80 | | Excellent sample here. Smooth and well rounded with good roast and choc malts coming through whilst still retaining the signature slight hoppiness i the background. My score 16/20. |
Old Dairy - Snow Top | 6.00 | | Excellent strong black winter warmer. Sweet and malty with some hop bitterness for balance. The finish is vineous and fruity. My score 16/20. |
Rudgate - Ruby Mild | 4.40 | | Dark brown mild that is rather too bitter. Rather too much of a crystal malt flavour too. Dry, malty finish. My score 14/20. |
