Tasting Summary
These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

| Hogan Sampling | | 20 Jun 2026 | This Essex best bitter from its Maldon brewery set up in 1996 came with a very good head and lasting lacing. A dry malty first hit. A gentle bitterness rising with a spicy hoppiness featuring cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. This is likely to be emanating from traditional English hops such as Challenger behind its spicy, cedarwood, and herbal notes, Fuggles behind a damp, earthy, and woody spiciness, East Kent Goldings, used as a late addition or for dry-hopping and behind floral notes with a subtle, sweet spiciness and honey/fruit notes. Additionally, Bramling Cross/Northdown behind a slightly darker berry fruitiness combined with a punchy, peppery kick. Biscuity malts winning over and aided by either Maris Otter or British Pale Ale Malt, and reinforced by its Amber or Special Roast Malts behind its dry, toasted and biscuity flavours for me. A bittersweet finish aided by its floral and fruity undertones. Served in top notch condition. |

| Hogan Sampling | | 14 Sep 2024 | Presented with a very creamy head. Toffee and fudge flavouring in this Copper Best Bitter from Maldon and which I recently enjoyed visiting. |

| Hogan Sampling | | 27 Mar 2025 | Fresh on is this Maldon-based bitter and holding its head and lacing well. A very sweet first hit a bit like biting into a toffee apple. A bitterness winning through but still a sweet maltiness and lasting into the aftertaste. |

| Philip Pirrip | | 17 Nov 2024 | Awful brown toffee tasting concoction which made it a chore to finish |
| Hogan Sampling | | 17 Nov 2024 | 2nd night on and holding a good head and lacing. Once again an instant toffee hit and "bittersweet" as the tasting notes point out. Too sweet for my liking to have more than one. |
| Hogan Sampling | | 16 Nov 2024 | This replaced the earlier bitter from Bexley. Good head and lacing. An instant toffee hit and so too sweet for my taste-buds. A malty aftertaste. |

| Hogan Sampling | | 09 Jul 2024 | Sadly the last one out of its barrel or next to it being so and so returned it after one sip for change to wonderful Milestone New World Pale with lovely head. |

| Hogan Sampling | | 08 Mar 2025 | Good head and lacing on this Essex-based Maldon Best Bitter. A very bitter and malty first hit. The lacing started to depart quicker than I could sup my first half of the two here. A moreishly dry bitter mouthfeel with a sweet maltiness lingering. |
