Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingExcellent08 Nov 2025 A very creamy head being exhibited on this Ramsgate-brewed stout. A frothiness to behold indeed. Its lasting lacing could have aided many an old wartime window being blacked out for sure! A dry hop-infused bitterness rising. A biscuity maltiness, aided by three different dark malts, winning over with touches of hop-infused red berries, burnt toast and blackcurrant. Sailing out superbly, ably assisted by all that creaminess it was firmly holding onto along its chosen channel.

Hogan SamplingAcceptable14 Oct 2025 Now its fifth night on for this Ramsgate stout and now starting to show its age and only just holding its head and lacing and a decant or two needed to restore it. Surprised it has not been supped sooner by others but competing against the usual 6 other cask ales on all at the same time. A dry bitter first hit. A hop-infused bitterness rising and its maltiness lingering. Still drinkable but now past its best as all beers generally are by their fifth night on.
Philip PirripGood13 Oct 2025 Just about good
Philip PirripGood12 Oct 2025 Good head and lacing, lacking much taste
Hogan SamplingGood12 Oct 2025 Now its third night on for this Ramsgate stout and still holding its head and lacing very well to the bottom of the glass. A bitter dryness first. A hoppy bitterness second. Third, a maltiness tantalising my taste buds and lingering from its mix of three different dark malts and hints of red berries. Even on its third night it continues to impress.
Hogan SamplingExcellent11 Oct 2025 Second night on for this Ramsgate stout and still presenting very good head and lacing and lasting. A dry bitter first bite. A hop-infused bitterness rising. A good maltiness from its mix of three different dark malts lingering in its aftertaste. Very moreish and so another followed.
Hogan SamplingExcellent10 Oct 2025 Fresh on and a creamy head literally foaming on top of this Ramsgate-brewed stout. Lacing around the side of the glass lasting to the end and that would have done well on our windows for the blackouts in the Second World War! A dry bitterness on its first bite. A good degree of maltiness rising from its three different dark malts. A dry hoppiness winning over supremely with a pleasantly malty bitterness on the ferry for me downwards.

Hogan SamplingExcellent26 Jan 2025 At last a good Gadds' after all! Very good head and lacing on this Ramsgate stout with lots of cream on its top. A very dry first hit. A malty mouthfeel and a dryness lingering. Very moreish and so packed two in.
Philip PirripExcellent07 Apr 2024 First time I have had this - good malt blend in excellent condition

DosserGood17 Sep 2025 Lost its head and lacing quickly though quite flavoursome. Bit watery for a stout.
DosserGood19 Feb 2025 Nice stoutish beer. £3.80 so almost a £ less than the Monty.
DosserGood27 Feb 2024 New stout for paddy's day. Not bad.

Hogan SamplingGood02 Aug 2025 Good creamy head and lacing and lasting on this local Ramsgate black stout. A spice-infused malty first bite. A dry moreish bitterness rising among the odd fruity note bobbing up and down from its blackberry flavourings on my taste buds. A good fruity and biscuity-infused maltiness sailing off ably assisted by its three dark malts.
