Ray | | 29 Jan 2010 | Less complex than on 24th. Probably a little tired but still the best of the evening. |
Ray | | 24 Jan 2010 | Pulled deep ruby red with long lasting dark beige head. Well judged smoky aromas and taste backed up with coffee and liquorice. Long, hoppy finish to a well crafted and unusual porter. |

Ian | | 16 Jan 2008 | In pretty good condition, but from what the barman said, I think it was coming towards the end of the barrel. Smoke, dry tar, choccy porter. It's pretty good, but not perfect. |

Ian | | 12 Jan 2008 | A lot to live up to as I have a very idealistic view of this beer. And to be honest it doesn't let me down. Lovely spicy old ale. Perfumed lovely roasted flavours, great beer, with nice choc powder too. |

Ian | | 17 May 2006 | Black beer with thick bubbly beige lasting head. Porter is such an under made and under appreciated style, every brewery should make one and brew it on a regular basis, it's a great style. And this is an interesting version. Odd burst of hops on aroma. You expect roast malt/choc/coffee or sour liquorice, but it's choc hop instead. In mouth there's liquorice and choc and then tight hop bite on the end with more liquorice. Interesting hop/liquorice/choc balance. |
4.80% ABV.
This is a smoked Celtic porter, with an initial sweet flavour leading to a full-bodied silky-smooth liquorice on the palate and a bitter hop finish.
