Philip PirripExcellent19 Apr 2013 Superb - no drop in abv with this one to try to beat the higher alcohol tax rate as some other breweries have done

Golden Lion Hotel, Middlewich, Cheshire

Stephen HarrisAcceptable07 Mar 2020 Thin for its strength and overly-winey. I didn't think it was quite right.

IanExcellent03 Feb 2006 Very dark ruby, with beige head. Nice attractive boiled sweet aroma. Quite hoppy. Yep, it’s quite sweet but it’s pretty good. The hop can be quite severe. Good dark rich beer, slightlly hoppier than bottle version

The Yew Tree Inn, Barfrestone, Kent

AndrewExcellent07 Jan 2006 Wow, this will take your breath away. Black beer with no real head. The high alcohol content and taste was very well balanced by an astringent rough tanin burnt bitterness that I'd associate with crude oil crossed with a red Bordeaux wine.
