Around mid day and a about half a dozen gents sitting at the bar.

Saturday afternoon and central Manchester was heaving with people. We had given up trying to enter pubs in the Deansgate area as most were full with queues and door control allowing one customer in when one left. We decided to abandon Deansgate and the Christmas Markets area and head for back streets or relatively unknown pubs and found refuge here, they had obviously had a very busy day as all the beers on the blackboard and others had appeared on the pubs, more beer was being delivered whilst we sat and drank our beer.
Bottle Brook - Roadrunner | 4.80
Beowulf - Folded Cross | 4.30 | Not Tried
Alechemy - Starlaw | 3.50 | Not Tried
25 Jan 2013 (Martin the Mildman)
Beer festival here with a stillage in the market area.
Dunham Massey - Chocolate Cherry Mild | 3.80 | | Cherry dominating in this sample with the chocolate malt taking a back seat. Still a classic though. My score 16/20. |
Welbeck Abbey - White Cannon | 2.80 | | Pale low strength bitter with a strong bitter hop flavour but little balance leaving a rather one dimensional beer. My score 14/20. |
10 Jul 2012 (Mick)
A bit strange drinking in a shopping centre, but why not?
Boggart - Rum Porter | 4.60 | | Nice, very rich and smooth. |
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | Not Tried
27 Jan 2012 (Stephen Harris)
This quirky little pub has doubled in size since my last visit, expanding into a neighbouring unit in the Food Hall – but it is still tiny. A steady trade, and apparently people had been queuing up for the tapping of the Extra Rum Porter cask at 11am the previous morning.
Boggart - Extra Rum Porter | 6.40 | | Black and smooth and very alcoholic, the strong rum taste and smell giving an impression of alcohol volume well above the stated 6.4%. |
Ossett - Voyager | 4.20 | | A copper coloured, malty beer with a bitter finish. |
Boggart - I Am Beer | 4.20 | Not Tried
20 Jan 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
First port of call for a few en route to the national winter fest.
Great Orme - Madhatter Gold | 3.50 | | Pale gold with a fairly dry, bitter flavour. Some hop in the finish. My score 14/20. |
07 May 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Lakeland (formerly Stringers) - Dark Country | 3.50 | | Fairly sweet and malty dark brown mild with some hop bitterness towards the finish. My score 15/20. |
21 Jan 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Kissingate - Storyteller | 3.50 | | Pale yellow bitter with a sharp, piney hop flavour that is not really to my taste. My score 13/20. |
02 Oct 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Backyard - Prima Donna | 4.10 | | Pale and quite bitter but little in the way of hop or malt and little depth of flavour. My score 14/20. |
14 May 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Monty's - Bubs of May | 4.10 | | That's what the pumpclip said. Sweetish and quite malty golden ale. Good hop character and well balanced. My score 15/20. |
