Mid afternoon and busy with, would you believe, a child's party in full swing with balloons and other party paraphernalia strewn around! Seems nowhere is sacred anymore?
BeerABVScoreNotes

Mid afternoon friendly welcome from the bubbly knowledgeable barmaid, a few others in including a couple of chaps playing chess, such is the chilled out laid back atmosphere as always here with subdued lighting and soft background music playing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Inferno4.00ExcellentHoppy peachy smoky dry and flavoursome golden ale.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00Not Tried

01 Apr 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Noisy with loud conversation and all seats taken bar one or two.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodGood to see pub buying Harvey's in pins not firkins in view of smaller turnover of cask here compared with keg fizz
Salopian - Oracle4.00Not Tried
Glasshouse - Illuminomi4.70Not TriedPre-warned had been on quite a time
27 Jan 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Never known it so full with people having to stand too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30AcceptableReplacement ale was from a newly opened minikeg can - very fresh and acceptable but no way would want another
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00PoorAfter a few sips I could not have finished it. Very poor - poured from a metal pin and poured flat and lifeless and very tired. Replacement given and acknowledged as virtually from an empty cask
Hobsons - Twisted Spire3.50Not Tried
24 Dec 2022 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until its "until late" close. The temptation was more Harvey's Christmas Ale. Ended on a bottle of "wot the monks drink" Westmalle 4.8% Extra, a fairly new addition to its commercial output.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Christmas Ale7.50ExcellentA whole pint as Santa's nightcap
Kent - Pale4.00Not Tried

BeerABVScoreNotes

In Court Yard just off the High Street the former Crown pub has been part transformed following a wider development of the entire premises. Seating is at trestle style tables and low chairs. The original ground floor pub frontage has been retained. Card payment only, no cash accepted.
