4th visit of this outing to Broadstairs: Too busy to settle in but managed a photograph of the beers. A fellow real ale enthusiast I was with on this visit had been in for a half whilst I had my breakfast locally in a café. Standing room only and so did not sample even one but would have done the Shivering Sands’ Ribersborg Stout which I have much enjoyed before.

3rd visit of the outing: A little just after 2pm and busier than I have seen it at about this time throughout the summer and autumn months. Prompt, friendly service as is customary. A welcome bench seat to be had following my Broadstairs café breakfast and walk around the harbour quay.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - War Horse4.00GoodA very creamy head on this local Ramsgate-brewed brown ale with lasting lacing to die for. A very bitter first hit. A good malty note pervading with a subtle roasted caramel hint climbing. An earthy spiciness from its East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops. A moreishly hoppy bitterness sailing downwards. It was first brewed for November 11, 2018, the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I.

5th visit of the outing: Buzzing with custom and a band of musicians setting up to beat their drums and blow and do likewise with their assorted instruments from 4pm. We made it half an hour before that which afforded seating for our party of four and the chance for a quiet half. Usual prompt and friendly service and before the mass arrivals from 4pm which we avoided witnessing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shivering Sands - Maunsell Bitter4.00GoodVery good head and lacing and lasting on this Thanet-brewed dark amber bitter from just outside Manston International Airport, north-west of Ramsgate. A dry bitter first hit. A hoppy bitterness rising with a fruit-infused hoppiness from its US-style hops. A malty note or two bobbing up with a touch of malty caramel. A moreishly dry bitterness shunting downwards. The brewery gets it name from the Maunsell sea forts north of Herne Bay as does this bitter's name directly. They were built during the Second World War. In the mid-1960s the forts at Shivering Sands formed a temporary home for pirate radio stations, such as Radio Sutch set up by Screaming Lord Sutch.

Third stop of the outing: Ticking over for my early afternoon appearance with the usual regulars I always see seated and standing around the bar. Usual friendly, prompt service and a good choice of four real ales on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Oak Nouveau 20254.30GoodThe first green hop beer of my visit and from this Essex blonde brewed in Maldon. Good head and lacing but did not last. A fresh hoppy first hit. A dry bitter fruity hoppiness rising from its fresh Challenger hops known for providing a good bitterness. A hop-infused bitterness also from its First Gold hops, lending it orange peel, spice and floral notes, sailing out with a good hoppy dryness catching the wind.

1st stop of the outing: Just ticking over with a few of the usual regulars I see on every visit sitting around the bar for this early afternoon visit after a hearty breakfast in the high street and a gad around the harbour quay. Prompt friendly service from the barmaid as usual.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kent - Kent Golding Bitter or KGB4.10GoodThis Kentish light golden bitter from Birling, north of West Malling, came with good head and lacing and lasting. A very bitter first bite. A hoppy dryness veering upwards and a rising dry bitterness winning over. Playing a good hoppy note or two from its Golding and Fuggles hops in its final descent.

5th visit of the outing: This micro no longer calls itself such but is still small in size. It can pack them in typically late afternoon for a live band on my earlier Saturday visits. This visit was early enough, though mid-afternoon, to be minus the band. A good few punters in but our party of two were comfortably seated. Warm friendly service and a good range of four real ales on, two from Kent-based breweries and two from Essex.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild3.70ExcellentHead and lacing, very good, with a good creaminess on show, and lasting, good, on this Essex dark mild from Maldon. A pleasantly dry malty first bite. A malty bitterness rising aided by its Maris Otter Pale, Crystal and Black malts. To my taste buds, the odd nutty, chocolatey and fruity note or two coming to the fore. A dry malt-infused hoppiness from its Challenger hops sailing off into the sunset. No less than CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain 2011 and Champion Mild of East Anglia 2016. Very moreish!

The pub is found in Broadstairs, Kent, CT10 1NE.

In Albion Street, initially a micropub conversion from its previous existence as Reef restaurant. Opened in mid February 2019 selling real ales, ciders and keg beers, gins etc. Real ales sold through 3 handpumps on the bar counter and ciders through handpump and boxes in the fridge. Run by beer and cider enthusiasts from west Kent. Corner house with large picture windows on two sides. Furnished with high and low scrubbed top tables. Variety of traditional pub games available. Mainly sells Kentish real ales but from further afield too. In 2022 chose to rebrand itself as an ale house and no longer a micropub.

We have visited this pub 43 times, seen 97 different beers and tried 45 of them.
