I didn’t get away from work until gone 8pm (don’t we all just love putting in 12-hour-plus shifts), so it was mid-evening by the time I got here and not too busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Southern Lights Red Ale3.80AcceptableA sweet, fruity, red ale – lacking body and little evidence of hops. I cannot blame poor condition of the beer this time; it was perfect.

Mid-evening and quietening down from around 9pm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Tom Ditto IPA5.00ExcellentAmber/reddish in colour. A strong tasting, full-bodied IPA with masses of fruity US hop flavours. I had to have a couple to be absolutely sure how good it was.

Quiet at 8pm with the rush hour pretty much over and most remaining customers outside on the pavement.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ilkley - Rye N' Dry5.00ExcellentReddish-brown in colour. In sparkling condition; no quality issues today. Unexpectedly light for its strength. Slightly spicy and bready undertones from the rye. Loads of good, citrusy hop tastes.

16:45 Time to spare before train home so came here as Hamilton Halls still closed for renovation. Beer quality was disappointing. I think they are probably too busy for only six handpumps. The beer goes so quickly it would appear to be not quite ready when needed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mordue - IPA5.10ExcellentCloudy but very tasty. Barman said it was fresh on.

18:30 30 minutes to kill so came here for a drink. A mistake. Normally good for beer, not tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
WharfeBank - Fair Dinkum4.30PoorAgain cloudy, but not as bad as the other beer.
Wold Top - Golden Summer4.40UndrinkableCloudy and obviously gone. My pint was changed without question. However, the clip was not turned and I got the distinct impression they were going to continue selling it.

Nice to catch this pub fairly quiet in the evening rush hour as the City is slow to awake from its Christmas slumbers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Petersfield Porter5.00ExcellentVery deep red, almost black in colour. A Porter in the London style. Initially sweet, richly malty, slightly smoky, winey/sherry-like hint. An exclusive brew for the Nicholson’s chain.
