07 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Evening session after football at Brisbane Road. Pleasant atmosphere and quite busy.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | A couple of these excellent beers to make up for a horror beer served to me in error. |
Guinness - Golden Ale | 4.50 | | Served to me in error when I ordered Maldon Gold, and I decided to give it a go. Comes in a very nice glass; that’s about the end of the positive comments. On keg dispense, cold and fizzy. Very sweet. No discernible hop flavours. Tastes of cheap malt/corn. Pretty much like an English, so-called Lager I think. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried | Badged here as "Rita's Special". |
31 Oct 2015 (Stephen Harris)
In here in the evening following football at Brisbane Road. Sat in the Public Bar with some old friends, whilst live music played in the Lounge Bar. I fear I have a cold coming on.
Mighty Oak - Ghoul's Gold | 3.70 | | Just the kind of pale, hoppy beer that Mighty Oak are so good at. |
Mighty Oak - Sky Walker | 4.10 | | A more traditional, darker Bitter with good hop character. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried | Re-badged here as a house beer. |
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | Not Tried | Ran out before I got my hands on any. |
11 Jun 2015 (Stephen Harris)
First pub on a local CAMRA Crawl. Just five of us gather and we prop up the bar for a couple. Warm welcome from the Guv’nor.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | A fine beer in tip top form. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried | Branded here as a house beer. |
31 May 2015 (Stephen Harris)
This pub is again under new management since my last visit. I’m astonished to discover that food is now sold, including some excellent looking pizzas.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | Tasty beer on top form. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
20 Jun 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Late evening visit for a quick one. I had heard that there had been another change of management here and had been meaning to lookin for a while. It was good to see the pub busy again, and with many of the old faces back in situ.
Sambrook's - Pumphouse Pale Ale | 4.20 | | A golden, malty brew. |
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Lazarus | 4.20 | Not Tried
Cotleigh - 35 | 3.90 | Not Tried
14 Feb 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening visit on a wild night with a gale howling outside. Nice and cosy in here though.
Cotleigh - 25 | 4.00 | | Malty and sessionable. But this pint served a bit too green. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried | Sold here as 'Rita's Special'. |
Weltons - Horsham Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried

21 Dec 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Late evening into the early hours. Crowded and there is a party mood, with much vigorous dancing and singing along to the live music. The performing duo are a bit overwhelmed, having (apparently) performed the previous evening in a Catford pub to an audience of three pensioners.
Mighty Oak - Melting Moments | 3.90 | | Copper/amber and citrusy hoppy. |
Slater's - Firecracker | 4.10 | | In poor, end-of barrel condition and hard to assess flavours. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Cotleigh - Red Nose Reinbeer | 4.50 | Not Tried
Sambrook's - Powerhouse Porter | 4.90 | Not Tried | Ran out quickly. |
Mighty Oak - Santa's Little Yelpers | 3.70 | Not Tried
06 Nov 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Pub two of six on a CAMRA pub crawl, with around 15 participants. But this is as far as I get, with lots of old friends present here and Jeff and I somehow get left behind.
Crouch Vale - Punch | 4.10 | | Very good, full-bodied, pale beer. I stick with this one. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Sambrook's - Battersea Rye | 4.50 | Not Tried | Quickly ran out. |
Cottage - Trafalgar | 4.10 | Not Tried
Weltons - Stormy Weather | 3.70 | Not Tried
27 Apr 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening to close. An end-of-season party in progress to mark the last Leyton Orient match for a few months. Crowded and very lively. A great karaoke session (yes, that’s right, I used the words ‘great’ and ‘karaoke’ in conjunction there, probably for the first time ever).
Mighty Oak - Mighty Yolk | 4.50
Slater's - Shining Knight | 4.50
Mighty Oak - Rodeo | 4.20 | | |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
13 Apr 2013 (Stephen Harris)
I’ve been using this as my local pub for 22 years, usually during that time on a once or twice a week basis. Never have I gone anything like my recent absence of many months, brought on by several different reasons. Anyway, I went in to see how it is faring under the new management and ended up staying until late with friends and enjoying the live music.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | Always a good seller here. |
Corvedale - Dark And Delicious | 4.60 | | Dark & Malty. |
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Captain Bob | 3.80 | Not Tried
