07 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Evening session after football at Brisbane Road. Pleasant atmosphere and quite busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold3.80ExcellentA couple of these excellent beers to make up for a horror beer served to me in error.
Guinness - Golden Ale4.50PoorServed to me in error when I ordered Maldon Gold, and I decided to give it a go. Comes in a very nice glass; that’s about the end of the positive comments. On keg dispense, cold and fizzy. Very sweet. No discernible hop flavours. Tastes of cheap malt/corn. Pretty much like an English, so-called Lager I think.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Courage Best Bitter (use Marston's entry now please)4.00Not TriedBadged here as "Rita's Special".
31 Oct 2015 (Stephen Harris)
In here in the evening following football at Brisbane Road. Sat in the Public Bar with some old friends, whilst live music played in the Lounge Bar. I fear I have a cold coming on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Ghoul's Gold3.70ExcellentJust the kind of pale, hoppy beer that Mighty Oak are so good at.
Mighty Oak - Sky Walker4.10GoodA more traditional, darker Bitter with good hop character.

First pub on a local CAMRA Crawl. Just five of us gather and we prop up the bar for a couple. Warm welcome from the Guv’nor.

This pub is again under new management since my last visit. I’m astonished to discover that food is now sold, including some excellent looking pizzas.

Late evening visit for a quick one. I had heard that there had been another change of management here and had been meaning to lookin for a while. It was good to see the pub busy again, and with many of the old faces back in situ.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Mid-evening visit on a wild night with a gale howling outside. Nice and cosy in here though.

Late evening into the early hours. Crowded and there is a party mood, with much vigorous dancing and singing along to the live music. The performing duo are a bit overwhelmed, having (apparently) performed the previous evening in a Catford pub to an audience of three pensioners.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Melting Moments3.90ExcellentCopper/amber and citrusy hoppy.
Slater's - Firecracker4.10PoorIn poor, end-of barrel condition and hard to assess flavours.

Pub two of six on a CAMRA pub crawl, with around 15 participants. But this is as far as I get, with lots of old friends present here and Jeff and I somehow get left behind.

Mid-evening to close. An end-of-season party in progress to mark the last Leyton Orient match for a few months. Crowded and very lively. A great karaoke session (yes, that’s right, I used the words ‘great’ and ‘karaoke’ in conjunction there, probably for the first time ever).

I’ve been using this as my local pub for 22 years, usually during that time on a once or twice a week basis. Never have I gone anything like my recent absence of many months, brought on by several different reasons. Anyway, I went in to see how it is faring under the new management and ended up staying until late with friends and enjoying the live music.
