15 Nov 2025 (Hogan Sampling)
2nd visit of the outing: This little micropub in Chislehurst Royal Parade is never quiet on my Saturday early evening visits and this one proved to be no exception. Busy throughout its tiny interior but our party of three managed to gravitate to a table on its lower deck as you come in. We duly rounded up seating dotted about in odd corners. This former flower shop with just a flower-counter remaining at the very front as you come in on the right was most certainly thriving with many a neighbouring restaurant also in this parade attracting The Cockpit's customers no doubt. We were served quickly and stayed for at least two different real ales from its impressive range of 8, no less, real ales on. It does not accommodate KeyKeg and perhaps due to its lack of extra available space?
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kernel (The Kernel) - Bitter Wet Hop4.40Excellent2nd ale of this visit: This London bitter brewed at Spa Road, Bermondsey, came with very good head and lacing and lasting to the end. A moreishly dry hoppy first bite. A fruited hoppiness climbing up with fresh, herbal notes. This seasonal bitter is made from freshly picked Challenger and Prima Donna hops and within hours of their picking. A pleasantly fruited bitterness with hints of spice and a touch of zesty orange sliding down.
Tonbridge - Pit3.80Good1st ale of this visit: This regular house ale in The Cockpit micro is named Pit, and no doubt named after Tonbridge's 3.8% copper-coloured bitter, Coppernob. Very good head and lacing and lasting throughout. A dry hoppy first bite. A very pleasant fruity hoppiness climbing up and aided by its Kentish hops: Northdown, Challenger, Golding and Fuggles. A fruited note or two dancing on my taste buds with a hint of herb and spice thrown in. A dry fruit-infused hoppiness sliding downwards with a touch of biscuity maltiness.

Never seen this little micropub so busy, both for outside seating at the front and on the inside for my early evening visit. Navigated my way to the bar. This was a bit of an assault course but made it and situated at the very back of this former flower shop with just a flower-counter remaining at the very front as you come in on the right. Was served quickly and then retraced my footsteps towards the front with my half for a quick perch on a seat that had just become available.

A brief visit as would've been rude not to as in the area, busy with the pavement seating at a premium on a warm sunny afternoon with a few spaces inside. Many folk like us were gricing the variety of vintage buses on route 61.

Early evening busy inside and out thanks to the mild sunny weather. A no doubt welcome oasis for beer choice in a nationally blanded area.

Evening visit until close. My first here and was most stuck by the prices, generally much higher than I am used to in a micropub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
BritHop (originally cuckoo or contract brewed at Franklins) - Pit3.80ExcellentWell balanced, a joy to drink after the Neptune. The only reasonably priced ale here tonight
Neptune - Shifting Sands4.30GoodNo indication of being a hazy murk, just a miniature "VF" on the beer board. Please pre-warn customers who value clarity in their ales

I really liked this pub, my friends chose to sit outside but I enjoyed the wonderful interior and the smell of fresh flowers for a while before deciding to be semi-sociable and joining them outside.
