Late afternoon visit. Like most of Borough Market this was frenetic, especially at the bar, bordering on unpleasant. Did find a quiet back corner to sit in.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00AcceptableMajor agitation when pouring, with handpump jerked instead of gently and smoothly pulled. Lacklustre, rather fresh tasting Harvey's Best

Sunday early evening and relatively quiet in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Lytham - I.P.A.5.60ExcellentHazy gold. Nice, spicy, English hop flavours.
Bloomsbury - Black IPA4.20GoodI’ve lost track of where Bloomsbury beers are brewed just now – is it Wooden Hand? This is a pleasant enough Black IPA without being full-throttle.

An evening visit and the whole Borough Market area is thronged.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hambleton - Iced4.20ExcellentPale. Nicely hopped and with tea flavours too.
Hammerpot - Oyster Pond Stout4.20AcceptableNear black in colour. Very fruity and a touch sweet.
B&T (Banks & Taylor's) - Shefford 37° South4.80PoorA golden beer that probably has some nice hops – but spoilt here by warm temperature and flat condition.

Early Sunday evening and this pub has a relaxed atmosphere. I sat at the bar in the back area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Partners - American Craft Ale4.50ExcellentA golden beer with plenty of US hop flavours.
Three Sods - Trade Union4.50GoodVery pale and hoppy. Just a little bit short of body I thought.

Exceptionally crowded tonight and they are running out of both beer and glasses. I list only the beers that were available on the back bar – I could not get near the front bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rudgate - Wangle Hopper4.80AcceptableI had expected from the name for this to be a hoppy beer. In fact it is an amber-coloured beer with red fruit flavours.

I had planned to go to the Rake where Bianca Road Brewery were holding court, but that little pub was packed beyond capacity. Looked in here instead and found my old mate Colin G installed in the back bar so decided to stay for a couple.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kent - Old Jamaica5.10ExcellentA sticky, black Stout with lots of ginger.
Settle - Dragon Fire5.00GoodHazy old gold in colour. Pint suffered from warm temperature which dulled the hop flavours.

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AA.

Famous pub opposite Borough Market in Stoney Street. Central bar has many beers which change on a regular basis and are mostly from UK micros. Can be extremely busy. Refurbishment some time ago and now there is one main room with a side area with seating as well. Many customers use the pavement outside to stand and enjoy their drinks. Really a must for anyone taking in London pubs. Sports 12 handpumps with 6 in each of the 2 distinct bar serving areas plus a further 4 for cider dispense at the far rear. Upstairs restaurant bar area too, mainly for lunchtime use. In 2019 the real ale choice was drastically reduced to 4 and the cider was withdrawn. Downstairs toilets. Card payment only, cash not accepted here.

We have visited this pub 282 times, seen 813 different beers and tried 647 of them.
