Saturday afternoon in this wonderful time warp. We sat at the back of the bar near the fire place and Jenny came down and sat with us. She told us that she is planning to retire as she is now 82 years old and has been running the pub since the early 1960s. I drank a bottled Gadds No. 3 as I was not particularly in the mood for a Ruddles.

Early evening and remarkably busy. We sat down near the fireplace and were soon joined by Jenny who took a short break from serving behind the bar.

Shown on this site as in Ramsgate, but the pub is actually just across the border in Broadstairs. A good welcome from Jenny as she opened the pub promptly for 6pm opening and a steady trickle of customers after that.

3pm call. First visit on today's, very blowy Thanet wander. Just the four of us, including the server. Impressive, ancient old type pub, but looked like a non starter for proper real ale buffs. Conversation and board/card games rule. Nice enough.

Saturday afternoon, it was Jenny's 79th birthday so there were various nibbles on the bar plus other food items that customers had made.

Greene King - Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip4.30ExcellentVery well kept pint. I don't normally drink this beer on principle as I was upset about the closure of Hardys and Hansons but I did enjoy this one.

Decided to do a loop bus pub tour. However we didn't bring a timetable as we thought the buses were more frequent but not so in the evening. This pub had Greede King beers only so we gave it a wide berth. Seemed a very nice place though.

I was given a lift here from the Chapel in Broadstairs. We arrived soon after 1pm and there was a notice on the door that the pub would not open until 1pm. We perservered and eventually heard the sound of the doors being unlocked. Jenny had caught a bug that is going around, but despite sounding very croaky was cheerful and welcoming. The Ramsgate landlady that gave me a lift had not been here before and loved the place.

We arrived at lunchtime and found the door locked, but a welcoming woof from the pub's Alsation dog alerted Jenny, and the door was soon opened. I really like it in here, and we would have stayed for a third pint each, but we wanted to get the Montefiore before afternoon closing.
