First real ale in 30 days after Tenerife and with a blood test beckoning. Camra Saturday crawl around Walmer and Deal.13 of us. So far. 3 ales on, lots of Green hops and shivering sands to come on later.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Black Pig4.80GoodA good pint to start with at £4.10 a pint.
09 May 2024 (Jack William)
Lunchtime visit - bus pass outing. Six of us enjoyed a good session with excellent fish and chips brought in. Hadn’t noticed the huge whale jaw bone before - found on the beach by the landlord apparently. Chap in a George Best t-shirt bemoaning Man Utd’s recent form. Both he and the t-shirt looked a bit worse for wear.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shivering Sands - Ribersborg Stout4.70ExcellentA wonderfully rich, creamy stout
Shivering Sands - Searchlight IPA4.20ExcellentA lovely pint.
Shivering Sands - Timeball4.30Good
Milestone - Doilem 4.50PoorJust a taster - the cartoon of Trump on the pump clip nearly put me off - the murkiness of this “hazy” pale ale did.
09 Nov 2023 (Jack William)
Bus pass Thursday group visit to this old favourite. 8 of us at just after noon, a friendly welcome and we enjoyed fish and chips from next door as well as a good variety of beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - War Horse4.00ExcellentBeautiful “brown ale” pint.
Northdown - Pale Ale Mary4.00Good
Titsey - Green & Gold4.20Not Tried
Northdown - Tidal Pool4.60Not TriedDidn’t go down well with others due mainly to its soupy appearance. There’s unfined and there’s opaque.

Late afternoon, very well patronised at least a dozen in. Good to see this micro thriving, I think it’s one of the best and still true to the original micro ethos.
BeerABVScoreNotes

One of the few micro pubs that are not only open all day but on Mondays too so we took advantage of this and and enjoyed a lunchtime session working our way through the menu!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Angels & Demons (now uses McCanns branding not its own) - Haunted Beauty6.50Exceptional'Scarily' moorish delicious silky smooth nectar with hints of roasted coffee and chocolate. Tentatively ordered just a half for the road but could have easily downed a pint or three..
Kent - California Leaning5.00ExcellentA full-on, hoppy IPA with grapefruit and other citrus fruit flavours topped off with characteristic bitterness, pine and resin.
Stonehenge - Great Bustard4.80GoodDeliciously fruity and malty with a lingering bitter aftertaste.
Shivering Sands - Spring Tide3.80GoodA light refreshing session ale with citrus undertones.
09 Feb 2023 (Jack William)
Lunchtime bus-pass outing. 7 of us had the pub to ourselves until 1:30 when a few locals turned up. Good variety of ales and excellent service.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Iron Pier - Bitter4.00Excellent
Hop Fuzz - American4.20Good
Time and Tide - Walmer Patchwork Pale Ale3.70GoodAn unfined and cloudy, fruity beer with a good body for a low strength beer.
Kissingate - Black Cherry Mild En Plus6.50AcceptableBadged at 7.0%. Sickly sweetness rather spoiled it. Our octogenarian member managed a full pint however.
Wantsum - Golgotha5.50Not Tried
08 Sep 2022 (Jack William)
Afternoon session for our 2nd Thursday group. 6 of us with just two or three others in. Good vibe.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Musket - Trigger3.60ExcellentFresh on and in superb condition. Very flavoursome for a 3.6.
Breakwater - Cow Juice4.20AcceptableFar too sweet for my liking but the dark ale old boys seemed to like it.
Northdown - Tidal Pool4.60AcceptableUnfined- and extremely cloudy. Last one out before the barrel was changed but it seemed drinkable nonetheless.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Single Hop Jester4.60Not TriedBadged as Single Hop Jester Gold at 4.0%. Hard to keep up with the varying output from Canterbury Ales at the moment
Iron Pier - Bitter4.00Not Tried

The pub is found in Walmer, Kent, CT14 7NX.

End of terrace (once the Walmer Sub Post Office and latterly a former Solar Energy Equipment) shop conversion in Dover Road. A Micropub, which first opened to the general public on Saturday 23rd January 2016, with perhaps a fuller range of alcoholic products than the usual Micropub. Cask ales are served through an ancient refurbished 4-way cash-register style handpump beer engine. Has free Wifi and often plays recorded music.

We have visited this pub 26 times, seen 83 different beers and tried 49 of them.
