Lunchtime and very welcoming, the landlord took time out to talk to us about the history of the pub and the village.

My first visit since the new guvnors took over:they seem to be keeping the spirit of the pub. Lunchtime on a wet post Christmas Friday, after an "outside morning".Much nostalgic banter-No, I don't think gaffer tape would be much use in repairing punctures!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50GoodSeems less cloying than last year, though my taste buds have been shot to blazes by the family cold. Good condition, anyway.

Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodSurprisingly, this was the first time I'd drunk this in ages. Perhaps mellower than before, but still a good refreshing cooking bitter.

We were selling our plants in the lychgate as part of the Smarden Open Gardens event. After the rush, and between the showers, a beer was needed.Late afternoon, a few familiar faces in the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale3.90AcceptableNow at the new improved ABV of 4.1 . A dull attempt at what, a "Golden Ale" , lager cross over? Well kept, in good condition, but dull. I was hoping that Early Bird would be on.A pity.

Today's the gloomiest day of the year, apparently. The river wasn't over the Town Bridge, however, and the Flyier was pleasantly busy for a late Monday evening.
