Third visit of this outing: Busy early evening with a group of drinkers around the bar of this two-roomed pub with a traditional bar running almost the length of its right-hand room as you enter. Prompt, friendly service at the bar and a high stool spotted and table to be shared at the front made for a welcome break after the walk back from the East Malling Beer Festival.

| Larkins - Pale | 4.20 | | Good head and lasting lacing on this malt whisky-coloured pale from Larkins Farm in Chiddingstone, near Edenbridge, Kent, which has revived traditional farm-brewing by using their own home-grown hops and after being set up in 1986 in Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells, before the move to Chiddingstone in 1990. A hoppy first hit. A fruited hoppiness rising with floral flavours coming to the fore in addition to its malted grains flavours and the brewery's own house yeast strain working its magic. Flavours of hedgerow fruits along with a spicy earthiness mixed with deep berry fruits sailing out with a very dry hoppy finale from its 100% estate-grown hops, including Early Choice Goldings, Bramling Cross and Whitbread Goldings harvested directly from the 4-acre hop gardens on their Larkins Farm. Served on very good form. |

Just after noon and we were the second customers, a nice pub and we were tempted to stay for a second one but decided against it because of the annoying advertisements on a commercial radio station that was being played.

Mid evening visit. More solace here after the noisy Malling Jug. Good chat with a couple of fellows who had seen me in said Jug earlier. The Bull seems like the most traditional pub in West Malling and a good range of local beers to boot.

The pub is found in West Malling, Kent, ME19 6QH.
Central bar serves smaller room with dartboard and main bar. Very attractive bar with lots of wood, wooden beams and hops hung from the ceiling. Rear patio for good weather and gazebo for smokers. Lots of stripped brickwork. 8 handpumps on bar. Prints of old West Malling / Kent on walls. Perhaps the least spoilt of West Malling's pubs.
