Gloriously hot day. After sitting on the beach for some time it was clearly time to re-hydrate.
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Good Health | 3.60 | | Really exceptional. Condition was excellent and the depth of flavours in this 3.6% beer was superb. Leafy zingy hops with a hint of cotton-candy on the finish. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
26 Jul 2013 (Andrew)
Hot weather brought out the retired and those on holiday. I didn't fancy the beer selection having come from the Shipwrights so I stuck to the coke.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Marston's - Pedigree | 4.50 | Not Tried
16 Jun 2013 (Andrew)
Overcast June day but not too cold. Busy and with a holiday feel to it. Summer, sea, pint; all natural buddies.
Wantsum - Miller's Mirth | 4.20 | | Good condition. Quite fruity for a Wantsum beer. Tangy with a nettle hop finish. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
11 Aug 2012 (Andrew)
After spending most of the day watching Scooby Do on DVD it was time to go out. The pub was heaving but we got a bench near the play area and, whilst Isabel played, listened in on the chatter of holiday makers.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4% & 3.5%) | 3.70 | | Really excellent. Tart fruit, lemon rind and some grapefruit |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
27 May 2012 (Andrew)
We came to Reculver to enjoy the nice weather. We sat on a beach. We observed seagulls and other seaside related things. We saw other people's exposed bodies and decided that the local bobbies ought to be able to issue "cover-up" orders. Then we went to the pub.
Wantsum - Red Raddle | 5.00 | | In decent nick. On the first few sips I thought this was a bit syrupy and bland but after a while it really grew on me. Slightly toasted, rich, malty with some fruit. Nice. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
13 May 2012 (Andrew)
Came to give Isabel a trip out and a go on her scooter - which she crashed into a bush. Still, the play ground in the pub got her smiling again.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4% & 3.5%) | 3.70 | | Good condition for this quality beer. |
23 Oct 2011 (Andrew)
Isn't global warming fun. 14 degrees it was by the Reculver towers which meant it was feasible to sit out with Isabel in the garden of the King Ethelbert.
Wantsum - Fortitude (was 4.2%) | 4.60 | | Good condition. Quite a leafy hop beer with some solid malt behind it. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
15 Jul 2011 (Blair)
Me and a friend decided to cycle the circumference of Thanet and this is where we chose to rehydrate ourselves. Bumped into a friend I haven't seen in years which was nice and random. i like it.
Wantsum - Miller's Mirth | 4.20 | | Good bitter with a nice malty/fruity flavour. |
Theakston - Best Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
08 May 2010 (Andrew)
It was wet and windy so a perfect British weekend for a trip to the beach. Other than a handful of kids on bikes, a minibus full of people in bright orange bibs fulfilling their community-service sentences and a bloke metal-detecting on the beach, Reculver was deserted. After having the life blown out of us by the Northerlies we decided to go to the pub. We sat out in the garden (which was sheltered) and let Isabel play on the climbing frame.
Brains - Hancock's HB | 3.60 | | In good condition. Nice malty-nutty notes. I liked this brown bitter. |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale) | 4.20 | Not Tried

Driving along the lane into Reculver I though I was in the 1930's. The sun was shining and the hedges had been recently cut (surely they stopped cutting hedges in the 1930’s – these days they just grub ‘em don’t they and build a supermarket?). It was quiet and peaceful at Reculver and the light was warm and soft. The pub was busy outside on the decking and in the garden with people enjoying the sun and the 1930’s atmosphere whilst trying to pretend that all their money wasn’t really disappearing down some giant Icelandic toilet.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Superb condition and the best No 5 I've had for years (or possibly ever). What and excellent best bitter this is; hints of fruit hidden away behind a proper earthy, slighly coffee, finish. Top stuff |
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Shepherd Neame - Canterbury Jack | 3.50 | Not Tried
