After spending most of the day watching Scooby Do on DVD it was time to go out. The pub was heaving but we got a bench near the play area and, whilst Isabel played, listened in on the chatter of holiday makers.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4%)3.50ExcellentReally excellent. Tart fruit, lemon rind and some grapefruit

We came to Reculver to enjoy the nice weather. We sat on a beach. We observed seagulls and other seaside related things. We saw other people's exposed bodies and decided that the local bobbies ought to be able to issue "cover-up" orders. Then we went to the pub.
Wantsum - Red Raddle5.00GoodIn decent nick. On the first few sips I thought this was a bit syrupy and bland but after a while it really grew on me. Slightly toasted, rich, malty with some fruit. Nice.

Came to give Isabel a trip out and a go on her scooter - which she crashed into a bush. Still, the play ground in the pub got her smiling again.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4%)3.50ExcellentGood condition for this quality beer.

Isn't global warming fun. 14 degrees it was by the Reculver towers which meant it was feasible to sit out with Isabel in the garden of the King Ethelbert.
Wantsum - Fortitude4.20GoodGood condition. Quite a leafy hop beer with some solid malt behind it.

Me and a friend decided to cycle the circumference of Thanet and this is where we chose to rehydrate ourselves. Bumped into a friend I haven't seen in years which was nice and random. i like it.
Wantsum - Miller's Mirth4.20GoodGood bitter with a nice malty/fruity flavour.
Theakston - Best Bitter3.80Not Tried

It was wet and windy so a perfect British weekend for a trip to the beach. Other than a handful of kids on bikes, a minibus full of people in bright orange bibs fulfilling their community-service sentences and a bloke metal-detecting on the beach, Reculver was deserted. After having the life blown out of us by the Northerlies we decided to go to the pub. We sat out in the garden (which was sheltered) and let Isabel play on the climbing frame.
Brains - Hancock's HB3.60GoodIn good condition. Nice malty-nutty notes. I liked this brown bitter.

Driving along the lane into Reculver I though I was in the 1930's. The sun was shining and the hedges had been recently cut (surely they stopped cutting hedges in the 1930s these days they just grub em dont they and build a supermarket?). It was quiet and peaceful at Reculver and the light was warm and soft. The pub was busy outside on the decking and in the garden with people enjoying the sun and the 1930s atmosphere whilst trying to pretend that all their money wasnt really disappearing down some giant Icelandic toilet.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 54.40ExcellentSuperb condition and the best No 5 I've had for years (or possibly ever). What and excellent best bitter this is; hints of fruit hidden away behind a proper earthy, slighly coffee, finish. Top stuff

We went for a walk along the sea front and around the Reculver Towers. With all the folk walking around in shorts and carrying beach toys and the like it felt like we were on holiday ourselves. The pub verandah and garden were fairly busy but we got a bench at the far end. Unfortunately Isabel got bored fairly quickly so we didn't get the chance to stay long.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30GoodToasted sugar and earthy hops dominated this amber beer. It was a bit hazy and perhaps not in the best of condition but it was still pleasant.

Walked along the cliff top to Reculver with Charlie and arrived just as the rain started. There were a handfull of people in.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70AcceptableSome good hops on the end but nothing really to write home about.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10Not TriedCharlie had this and it was pleasant with quite a lot of caramel.

Came with Jane, her mum and her brother. They wanted to see the towers at Reculver but it was cold so I though blow-that and went to the pub.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70ExcellentGood caramel malt, fresh and hoppy. Good stuff
