Dropped in after work, only a couple in but good atmosphere and intelligent conversation at the bar!
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Mystery Tor | 3.80 | | Pale golden colour. Refreshing citrus zing followed by a full rounded finish. Perfect pint for summer. |
Black Dog - RHATAS | 4.60 | | Mid brown bitter, soft bubbly head. Good malt and hop combination. |
Blackawton - Headstrong | 5.20 | | Smooth and slightly sweet. Heavy caramel finish was a bit overpowering. |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | Not Tried | Rob (the barman) said it was almost finished. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried

Arived about 4pm and it was empty. Apparently it had been very busy at lunch time but everyone had gone home. Anyway, another fantastic beer line up was on hand
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | | A lovely lime smell is followed by some subtle mellon on the front of the tounge and then rich mellon and well ballanced pineapple hop flavours dominate. Rich syrupy pineapple bitter finish. Ace! |
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale | 3.40 | | Smelt of mild coffee. Lively when poured so I guess it's only been tapped recently. Coffee flavours dominate. I'd love to have this in a day or 2 when it would have developed a bit of chocolate and would be absolutely fantastic. Goacher's Mild hey? Always a winner! |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried

Got there about 2pm to see the Fat River Band and it was busy. By the time we left it was very busy! The music was excellent as was the beer.
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | | Supberb. The combination of high alcohol and burnt smoaky malt was fantastic. A rich but mellow raw fruit cake mixture taste was followed by a long smoaky burnt malt bitter finish. If I could give this more than 5/5 I would. |
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | | Rich plum and strawberry with dark cherry and base bitter finish. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Dark amber coloured beer with a very rich christmas plum pudding fruit taste. Soft mouth feel and a short lived citrus bitter finish |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Mild | 4.00 | Not Tried | Jane had this and I had a sip. Lovely |

Arrived mid afternoon just as Charlie (the landlord) was going home. As I was by my own I sat at the bar and read a book. Sometime into my second pint the locals started a barn-dance. It's a great pub.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Mild | 4.00 | | Had that sour milky sweetness of a traditional mild with an underlying gritty burnt malt flavour. Black in colour with a good head that shrinks as the pint goes down. |
Wolf - Granny Wouldn't Like It !!! | 4.80 | | A dark caramel brown colour with a very stong taste of toasted sugar (toasted within an inch of being burnt). Had a short lived bitter finish but even that was overpowered by the toasted sugar |
1648 - Saint George English Ale | 4.50 | | As far as I could tell this was 1648 Ginger Nol without the ginger. A glowing caramel brown colour with a malty body and a raw cain sugar bitterness |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Otter - Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried
18 Apr 2006 (Andrew)
Went to the Yew Tree to celebrate my car being sold for £20. There were a handfull of locals in.
Flibbertigibbet - White Horse | 4.30 | | A golden yellow beer with a foamy head. Lots of straw and sharp grapefruit flavours followed by a very bitter grapefruit finish. It reminded me very stongly of something else I've had but I can't remember what which is really irritating. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Northern Light | 4.00 | | A light coloured beer with a very sweet malt taste to it. There were some hops on the finish but the general sweetness was too much for me really |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried | Sold out while we were there |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Mild | 4.00 | Not Tried
Cottage - Clifton Ale | 4.40 | Not Tried | Jane tried it and said it was very good |
21 Mar 2006 (Andrew)
Popped in for a quick one (...and a half) mid evening. A friendly crowd were in sitting around the bar.
1648 - Signature | 4.40 | | Fantastic. I had this 2 days ago and it was great them but even better now. The intense bitterness had subsided a bit so the grapefruit with hints of lemon came through more. I even detected a dash of strawberry. It still had a sharp bitterness especially in the finish. Great stuff |
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | | Another great beer. Tasted of water mellon with bitter cherry. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried | Sold out whilst we were there |
Burton Bridge - XL Mild | 4.00 | Not Tried
Archers - Blarney Stoned | 4.50 | Not Tried
18 Mar 2006 (Andrew)
I arrived about 8.30pm and it was quiet but that was because they'd been an almighty party the night before!
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | Sweet lychee and malt combined perfectly. Lovely |
1648 - Signature | 4.40 | | What a great beer. Pale yellow with a very sharp drying bitterness. Heavy hints of lemon and grapefruit. Wonderful |
Archers - Blarney Stoned | 4.50 | | A brown watery sweet malt beer. Not really my kind of beer. |
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | Not Tried
Burton Bridge - XL Mild | 4.00 | Not Tried
11 Mar 2006 (Andrew)
Arrived about 9pm and the bar was busy and got busier as the night went on.
Orkney (Sinclair) - Dark Island | 4.60 | | A rich dark red-black beer with a partial cream-grey head. It tasted of a rich sharp sweetness with undertones of milk and oats. The finish was a lovely sweet milky bitterness. |
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | | Intense but subtly so (paradoxical hey?). Deep malt flavours with subtle toffee and the heat of its high alcohol content. Long strong warming finish |
Dark Star - Over The Moon | 3.80 | | Dark toffee brown in colour with a long toffee-cream head. Lots of grapefruit bitterness (reminiscent of their HopHead) with a toffee elderflower finish. |
Cottage - Champflower Ale | 4.20 | | Red-toffee brown coloured beer. Tastes of a tart sweet metallic bitterness with subtle toffee, elderflower and marigold flavours. A really lovely session bitter |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
28 Feb 2006 (Brian)
Hugo behind the bar, only me and Jason the other side, Charlie turned up after a while, complaining about the 2 stars I gave the Stairway to Heaven, while munching on a pasty.
Hopdaemon - Dominator | 5.10 | | Jason was drinking it as well and he agrees that it's great. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Burton Bridge - Stairway To Heaven | 5.00 | Not Tried | Charlie had a half to see if my lack of enthusiasm was justified - not sure what the verdict was. |
Cottage - Between the posts | 4.60 | Not Tried | Had a sip and seemed very good. |
Nelson - Victory Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
24 Feb 2006 (Brian)
Just a quickie, just a couple of regulars at the bar.
Burton Bridge - Stairway To Heaven | 5.00 | | Not my scene at all. Clear golden ale with a foamy head, looked OK, but with a strong sulphurous nose and an aggressive bite. Not subtle. |
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Hopdaemon - Leviathan | 6.00 | Not Tried
Cottage - Between the posts | 4.60 | Not Tried
Nelson - Victory Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried
