24 Dec 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Rather quiet on Christmas Eve afternoon considering its location.
Wantsum - Figgy Pudding | 4.50 | | Not too much spicy flavour fortunately, making it quite a pleasant Christmas beer. My score 15/20. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | Not Tried
Marston's - Ugly Sisters | 4.50 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | Not Tried
25 May 2011 (Andrew)
Busy in the bistro, quite in the bar. Sat and looked out over the old rubbled car park and at the old, farm like, buildings next to it.
Wantsum - Black Prince | 3.90 | | Good condition. Black, roasted, light in the mouth, nice sweetness to it without being overpowering. Good stuff |
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Renaissance Ruby Mild | 3.80 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Low & Behold | 2.80 | Not Tried
15 Mar 2011 (Brian)
Heading back to the station and probably had enough by this point. Again, a really good beer line up though.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | | Foamy beige head. Great powdery choc/coffee flavour. |
Burton Bridge - Golden Delicious | 3.80 | Not Tried
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
01 Feb 2011 (Ian)
On a trip round Canterbury. Pretty quiet this evening. But this pub always supports Kent ales which I like.
Wantsum - Miller's Mirth | 4.20 | | OK bitter, but with some earthy hops on the end. Andrew would have liked this beer. |
27 Dec 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Rather spartan and clinical place. Got spotted by Ian in here. Most expensive beer by ABV.
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4% & 3.5%) | 3.70 | | Served too cold so difficult to ascertain much of what was going on. Quite bitter with some hop flavours and not much malt I think. My score a somewhat generous 14/20. |
Brakspear (at Marston's Wychwood) - Oxford Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy | 4.90 | Not Tried
03 Aug 2009 (Andrew)
I had half an hour to kill whilst waiting for a watch battery to be replaced so figured I'd come here and read the papers - which is exactly what I did.
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | | In good condition. Slightly rich, tangy, nutty-nettle hopped bear. Nice |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | Not Tried
24 May 2009 (Ian)
Mini beer fest going on with around 10 barrels set up to serve beer on gravity. No 4 on the crawl
Whitstable - Kentish Reserve | 5.00 | | Malty and syrupy strong bitter. |
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | Not Tried
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried
Whitstable - Pearl of Kent | 4.50 | Not Tried
16 May 2009 (Brian)
Pretty busy Saturday lunchtime. Football on the TV and lots of people eating to the left of the bar.
Whitstable - Kentish Reserve | 5.00 | | Clear mid brown with constant foam head. Slight sweaty hop aroma. Good hit of fruit in the body and clear dry finish. Really very good and not a noticeably strong ale. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
01 Apr 2009 (Ian)
I sat and watched the Sky News from the G20 protests and wondered where the world had gone so wrong from both sides of the fence
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | My favourite Gadd's beer. Brilliant in the fruit the malt and the hop bitterness. |
27 Feb 2009 (Ian)
I sat and watched West Indies vs England in the cricket as Ravi Bopara got thumped in the head by a ball from Fidel Edwards.
Whitstable - Winkle Picker | 4.50 | | Amber colour, lasting beige head. It’s a slightly cereally best bitter, some fruit on finish. It’s quite pleasant. A decent bitter. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | Not Tried
