With Leyton Orient’s fixture list finally published, Robert and I met in here to plan a few weekends away over the coming months.
Purity - Bunny Hop | 3.50 | | A nice, pale, hoppy beer. |
Redemption - Hopspur | 4.50 | Not Tried
Tiny Rebel - Juicy | 4.80 | Not Tried

This pub received my vote for the East London & City CAMRA Pub of the Year award – I note that it did not win. Very pleasant here tonight and, not for the first time here, I lashed out on some fancy beers.
Green Flash - Palate Wrecker | 9.50 | | On keg dispense. Amber in colour. A fearsome and flavourful West Coast US IPA in all its glory. |
Orbit - Gyle #100 | 11.00 | | A murky brown colour. This is a fabulous Barley Wine, aged with figs and dates for nine months to celebrate Orbit Brewery’s 100th brew. It has a wonderful depth of fruity flavours plus warming alcohol. |
Grain - Redwood | 4.80 | | Amber-coloured. A good balance of roasted malts and US hops. |
Burning Sky - Plateau (was 3.5%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Anspach & Hobday - The Three Threads | 6.40 | Not Tried
Grain - Lignum Vitae | 6.50 | Not Tried
09 Feb 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening visit after a rather stressful day at work.
Bad Co. - Wild Gravity | 5.20 | | Amber in colour (in a dark room it looked amber anyway). A well-balanced IPA with fruity hops and solid malt. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Lucaria | 6.00 | | Black Porter with lactose. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet. But somehow also dry and bitter. |
Saltaire - Saltaire Pride | 3.90 | Not Tried
Brass Castle - Comet | 4.30 | Not Tried
08 Aug 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening visit. The Kings Arms is focussing on US beers throughout the week of London Beer City and I pop in this-evening in the hope of tasting something special. It seems that this is partially at the expense of their cask beer range which is down to just one beer this-evening. I could have given a five star rating to either or both of these beers if I were in a more generous mood.
Birrificio Lambrate - Imperial Ghisa | 8.50 | | On keg dispense. A fantastic, smoked Imperial Porter from Italy. |
Founders - Redankulous | 9.50 | | On keg dispense. A super-hoppy Red IPA from the US. |
Northern Monk - Northern Star Mocha Porter | 5.90 | Not Tried
02 Jun 2016 (Stephen Harris)
I always enjoy my visits to this pleasant pub.
Almasty - Centennial | 4.40 | | Golden. Superb hop flavours. |
Cloudwater - US Light | 3.60 | | Golden, fresh, hoppy and easy-drinking. |
Big Smoke - Underworld Milk Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried
Big Smoke - Electric Eye | 5.50 | Not Tried
22 Apr 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early Friday evening, taking up a seat before the crowds started to arrive.
Moor - Dark Alliance | 4.70 | | A collaboration beer with Arbor Brewery. Black, hoppy, coffee-flavoured Stout. |
Rooster's - Highway 51 (or Highway Fifty-One) | 3.70 | | A golden and hoppy pale Ale. Dry-hopped to give fruity hop flavours. |
Wild Beer Co. - Bibble | 4.20 | Not Tried
Moor - Relentless Optimism (collaboration with Fuller's) | 5.50 | Not Tried
16 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening with Dave R – a good crowd in.
Beavertown - Double Chin | 8.50 | | On keg dispense. A special beer produced for Beavertown’s over-subscribed 4th anniversary party this past weekend. It is a souped-up, ‘double’ version of Neck Oil and absolutely superb in my opinion. |
Moor - Ported Amoor | 4.70 | | First class, near black porter with added Port. |
Mallinsons - Motueka | 3.90 | | Golden and hoppy, with good flavours, but condition a little warm and tired. |
Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Lord Marples | 4.00 | Not Tried
12 Jan 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Pleasant evening session. If you ever wondered where London’s brewers drink after work…. I spotted people here from Five Points and from 40 FT.
Wiper and True - Porter (Pink Peppercorn) | 5.00 | | Nice to see a Wiper & True beer in cask format. This is a rich, fruity, black Porter with a spicy/peppery finish. |
Hopcraft (experimental side of Pixie Spring) - The Boss | 4.40 | | Golden in colour. Wonderful hop flavours from Citra and Chinook. |
Hawkshead - Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Atom - Braggs Law | 5.20 | Not Tried
18 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening after work and fairly quiet in here. This is a very fine little boozer.
Gotlands - Mors Lilla Bulldog IPA | 6.80 | | On keg dispense. An IPA brewed with lots of blueberries. Has a purplish tinge. Liked it a lot – a strong, hoppy, fruity beer from Sweden. |
Burning Sky - Porter | 4.80 | | A rich, bitter, black Porter. |
Hawkshead - Windermere Pale (was 3.5%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - Liquid Mistress Red IPA | 5.80 | Not Tried
19 Sep 2015 (Stephen Harris)
The Cantillon Zwanze launch night has come around again and two London bars have been honoured with a keg. I have failed to book a ticket for the tapping at The Kernel, but I see it is available here on a walk-up basis. Naturally, the little pub is rammed as people queue for their third-pint ration. Some are a little worse for wear having moved here from the Rainbow Beer event which has been taking place at Beavertown this-afternoon.
Cantillon - Fou'Foune | 5.00 | | Served from a keg. A sour and very dry Apricot-flavoured Lambic blend. |
Mordue - Pandademic | 3.50 | | A full-on but low-strength US-style IPA. Bursting with hop flavours. |
Cantillon - Zwanze 2015 Wild Brussels Stout | 7.00 | | Served from a keg. This year’s special beer is a pleasantly sour stout. Gorgeous. |
Dark Star - Partridge Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Magic Rock - High Wire | 5.50 | Not Tried
Hardknott - Continuum | 4.00 | Not Tried
