With the London Beer City week in full swing, there is a multitude of beery events to choose between tonight, not least of which of course is the elephant in the room that is the GBBF. I decide to come here for a partial tap takeover and Meet the Brewer with Edge Brewing of Barcelona. Six of their beers available on keg.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Hoptimista6.60ExcellentOn keg dispense. Amber-coloured, this beer has a great, hoppy smell. The smell is backed up by strong US hop tastes from cascade, Centennial and Chinook. A classic US West Coast IPA.
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Soy Rodriguez5.30GoodOn keg dispense and quite highly carbonated. A Rye IPA featuring Zeus, Chinook and Centennial hops. Very dark in colour, it has roast barley flavours in addition to those you would expect.
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Powerplant7.40GoodOn keg dispense. Amber-coloured, cloudy, strong, spicy, sour Saison.

Early evening at a quiet time here – there is again an overwhelming choice of beers over the various formats.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Naparbier - Light Raven4.50ExcellentOn keg dispense. This beer has been brewed in Spain in collaboration with Evil Twin. Amber-coloured and unfiltered. Quite well-carbonated, but this does not detract from the excellent and exotic hop flavours – almost a five star beer.
Mallinsons - Baby Simcoe3.60GoodA golden beer with light malt and bitter hops.
Kent - Black Gold4.00Not Tried
Harbour - Amber Ale4.00Not Tried

I can’t explain why I have not been coming to this excellent pub. Superb beer range tonight with four beers on cask, five kegs from Troubadour, more kegs and key-kegs and a fabulous bottle range. My mate Keen had just come from ‘The Italian Job’ in Chiswick with rave reviews, so I expect I’ll be going there soon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brouwerij De Musketiers - Troubadour Westkust9.20ExceptionalOn ‘keg’ dispense, but just minimal, natural carbonation. A Black Imperial IPA – more like a hugely-hopped, roasty Stout in fact. Wonderful.
Marble - Spring4.60ExcellentGolden, hoppy, rich texture. Really good, as ever, from Marble.
Brouwerij De Musketiers - Troubadour Obscura 5 Year8.20ExcellentOn ‘keg’ dispense, although I think it must have been key-keg, given the lack of carbonation. A five years matured Belgian stout. Very full-bodied. Dark brown and mellow. Obvious Belgian yeast tastes.
Rooster's - Londinium (Taylors of Harrogate Traditional Coffee Porter)5.50GoodBlack, dry, roasty, lots of coffee, hint of sourness. Pretty good Porter – but I’m not a big coffee fan.
Bristol Beer Factory - Nova3.80Not Tried

A really enjoyable evening – with a presentation of Birra del Borgo beers from Italy (ten available on keg dispense), accompanied by excellent Italian charcuterie. I list the Birra del Borgo beers I tried, plus the six cask conditioned beers that were on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Birra del Borgo - Enkir6.10ExcellentGolden-coloured beer, brewed with Einkorn, giving a spicy flavour.
Birra del Borgo - Hoppy Cat5.80ExcellentTop quality Black IPA.
Birra del Borgo - My Antonia7.50ExcellentA collaboration beer with Dogfish Head of the USA. Described as a ‘Hopped-up Pilsner’. Certainly well-hopped.
Wild Beer Co. - English Roots4.80AcceptableI didn’t really care for this one. Thick, brown and nutty, the recipie contains parsnips and acorns.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 6EY.

This back-street, corner pub was present off Bethnal Green Road by 1832. Historically a Courage Brewery pub, it had become a free house by the 2000s and survived as a basic, no-frills, keg-only boozer until 2013. Substantially renovated, the pub re-opened in December 2013 as a convert to all things micro- and craft in the beer world. A sister pub to the Earl of Essex in Islington.

We have visited this pub 25 times, seen 103 different beers and tried 56 of them.
