With the London Beer City week in full swing, there is a multitude of beery events to choose between tonight, not least of which of course is the elephant in the room that is the GBBF. I decide to come here for a partial tap takeover and Meet the Brewer with Edge Brewing of Barcelona. Six of their beers available on keg.
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Hoptimista | 6.60 | | On keg dispense. Amber-coloured, this beer has a great, hoppy smell. The smell is backed up by strong US hop tastes from cascade, Centennial and Chinook. A classic US West Coast IPA. |
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Soy Rodriguez | 5.30 | | On keg dispense and quite highly carbonated. A Rye IPA featuring Zeus, Chinook and Centennial hops. Very dark in colour, it has roast barley flavours in addition to those you would expect. |
Edge Brewing (Barcelona) - Powerplant | 7.40 | | On keg dispense. Amber-coloured, cloudy, strong, spicy, sour Saison. |
Windsor & Eton - Knight of the Garter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Five Points - Hook Island Red | 6.00 | Not Tried
Big Smoke - Electric Eye | 5.50 | Not Tried
Siren Craft - All Bretts are off | 4.50 | Not Tried

Early evening at a quiet time here – there is again an overwhelming choice of beers over the various formats.
Naparbier - Light Raven | 4.50 | | On keg dispense. This beer has been brewed in Spain in collaboration with Evil Twin. Amber-coloured and unfiltered. Quite well-carbonated, but this does not detract from the excellent and exotic hop flavours – almost a five star beer. |
Mallinsons - Baby Simcoe | 3.60 | | A golden beer with light malt and bitter hops. |
Kent - Black Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried
Harbour - Amber Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Summer Wine (SWB) - Oregon Pale Ale | 5.50 | Not Tried

I can’t explain why I have not been coming to this excellent pub. Superb beer range tonight with four beers on cask, five kegs from Troubadour, more kegs and key-kegs and a fabulous bottle range. My mate Keen had just come from ‘The Italian Job’ in Chiswick with rave reviews, so I expect I’ll be going there soon.
Brouwerij De Musketiers - Troubadour Westkust | 9.20 | | On ‘keg’ dispense, but just minimal, natural carbonation. A Black Imperial IPA – more like a hugely-hopped, roasty Stout in fact. Wonderful. |
Marble - Spring | 4.60 | | Golden, hoppy, rich texture. Really good, as ever, from Marble. |
Brouwerij De Musketiers - Troubadour Obscura 5 Year | 8.20 | | On ‘keg’ dispense, although I think it must have been key-keg, given the lack of carbonation. A five years matured Belgian stout. Very full-bodied. Dark brown and mellow. Obvious Belgian yeast tastes. |
Rooster's - Londinium (Taylors of Harrogate Traditional Coffee Porter) | 5.50 | | Black, dry, roasty, lots of coffee, hint of sourness. Pretty good Porter – but I’m not a big coffee fan. |
Bristol Beer Factory - Nova | 3.80 | Not Tried
Windsor & Eton - Koh-i-noor | 4.50 | Not Tried

A really enjoyable evening – with a presentation of Birra del Borgo beers from Italy (ten available on keg dispense), accompanied by excellent Italian charcuterie. I list the Birra del Borgo beers I tried, plus the six cask conditioned beers that were on.
Birra del Borgo - Enkir | 6.10 | | Golden-coloured beer, brewed with Einkorn, giving a spicy flavour. |
Birra del Borgo - Hoppy Cat | 5.80 | | Top quality Black IPA. |
Birra del Borgo - My Antonia | 7.50 | | A collaboration beer with Dogfish Head of the USA. Described as a ‘Hopped-up Pilsner’. Certainly well-hopped. |
Wild Beer Co. - English Roots | 4.80 | | I didn’t really care for this one. Thick, brown and nutty, the recipie contains parsnips and acorns. |
Purity - Saddle Black | 5.10 | Not Tried
Skinner's - River Cottage | 4.00 | Not Tried
Ilkley - Forbidden Fruit | 5.00 | Not Tried
Anarchy - Rum & Raisin | 4.50 | Not Tried
Hand Drawn Monkey - Generically Named Xmas Beer | 3.60 | Not Tried

A low-key re-opening night for this venture, which promises to be another excellent beer destination pub.
Saltaire - Saltaire Pride | 3.90 | | A nicely-balanced, amber-coloured bitter. |
First Chop Brewing Arm - HOP | 4.10 | | Golden, fragrantly hoppy and a bit hazy. |
Waen - Blackberry Stout | 3.80 | Not Tried
Redemption - Big Chief | 5.50 | Not Tried
Harbour - Amber Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - La Tène (superseded by 3.5% version) | 3.30 | Not Tried
