Just a classic pub and one of the "must do's" on any Liverpool pub crawl. Lovely gentle banter in the pub mid Friday afternoon. Excellent barmaid kept it all going together.
Liverpool Organic - Liverpool Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Clear pale gold, thin off white head. Attractive hoppy aroma. Decent in mouth. Lovely lemony citrusy hop finish. Good pale blond beer. Lovely fullness of flavour again.

Stuck in Liverpool because of the snow we found this place because the Phiharmonic was closing early due to the blizzard, What a find, splendid little pub with excellent beers, warm and friendly welcome.
Liverpool Organic - 24 Carat | 4.10 | | Very pale, hoppy and refreshing, dry finish. |
Northern (see also Blakemere) - Soul Rider | 4.00 | | Very nice, well hopped with a good body. |
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale | 4.00 | Not Tried
Batemans - GHA | 4.20 | Not Tried

Classic side-street local, multi-roomed, untouched original pub decor and good selection of ales
Tetley - Dark Mild | 3.20 | | Right beer for this sort of pub and for a lunchtime sup. Not in best of nick on the day but an easy drinking pint, with slightly nutty flavour |

Mid afternoon, a few chatty locals in. I took photos and video for a relative of William Roscoe.
Hambleton - Village Brewer Raby Ale | 4.80 | | Very deep chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Roasty toasty ESB with rather lovely fruit. Wow, now that is a really good ESB. One of the best ESB aromas I’ve smelt. The toasty malt and deep jammy fruit are stunning. Full in mouth. If it had a peppery hop finish, I wouldn’t leave the pub. Drying hop on finish. Lovely malts throughout. |
York (now brewed by and at Black Sheep) - Decade | 4.10 | | Gold, thin beige head. Some lovely ascetic lemon/grapefruit aroma. Little bit too ascetic for me. Hop is really quite aggressive. Hot hop on finish. Good condition. Green hop flower on finish is excellent. |
JW Lees (see also Lees) - Ind Coope Draught Burton Ale | 4.80 | Not Tried | It was a bit vinegary, so the barmaid changed my pint for something else. |
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Bitter | 3.50 | Not Tried

All the other pubs didn't open til 12.00 so I found myself here at 11.20, the only punter in. I haven't been for ages, but it is a really lovely cosy pub.
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Bitter | 3.50 | | Decent condition, malty bitter, bit of creaminess from the sparkler. Inoffensive bitter. |
Northern (see also Blakemere) - Blakemere Snowy Owl | 4.10 | | Pale gold, lasting thin beige head. Came on the night before lateish apparently. Blond ale with grapefruit and tangerine citrus hops. A little bit too acidic for it’s own good, but the aroma is good. Little bit herby and the US hops on the finish are quite astringent. Not entirely balanced, but a decent stab. |
George Wright - Blue Moon | 5.00 | | Copper colour with lasting beige head. Slight haze. Earthy, but quite hoppy and bitter finish. Fullish in terms of sweetish malt in mouth. Slightly syrupy malt in mouth and aroma. An unsubtle ESB, but with most of the right elements. Peppery hop on end is good. |
