Best new London pub to me for some time. From the taps in the toilet to the half pint pewter tankards, I love it. Feels like a Gentleman's Club. I almost feel out of place here, but at home at the same time. Probably my archetypal pub.

Purity - Mad Goose4.20ExcellentGold, thin head. Reminds me of an Oakham's beer. Decent pink grapefruti hop aroma. Good and fullish in mouth, finish is superb. Good pink grapefruit hop, which builds. It's extremely good. Surprise of the day. Great.
Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Red Poll4.20AcceptableServed a little warm perhaps, but a decent best bitter/red ale. Full red berry fruit, slight strawberry jam edge. It's an odd bitter, some good fruit. Some yeast character. Deep gold/copper colour. Almost a bit of fruit syrupy malt, but it never gets there. I quite like it, but it never quite resolves itself. Fine.

What a fabulous pub. It was heaving. I didn't even mind having to sit on a stool by the door with people going past me every 10 seconds. I just sat there with a great pint of beer, my first ever served in a pewter tankard and just enjoyed the building the beer and the atmosphere.

Dark Star - Porter (aka City)5.50ExceptionalChoccy malty porter, roasty, grainy, great depth of mocha flavour. A great beer from a great brewery. Choccy beery malty aroma. All bar perfect.
