20 Jun 2010 (Ian)
Sat on the patio at the back listening to Collings & Herrin podcasts
Woodforde's - Sundew | 4.10 | | I remember having this at Cambridge beer fest a couple of years back when it first came out and I liked it. This is excellent with good tangerine fruit, good condition, good fullness in mouth, a great thirst quenching summer drink. |
15 Jun 2010 (Ian)
Not too busy and got served straight away. Some kids running around.
Mordue - IPA | 5.10 | | Lovely condition, lovely citrus hops, bitter, biting finish. Perfect for me. |
10 Jun 2010 (Ian)
I was in a good mood so decided to have a pint, sat by the window listening to Radio 4 comedy
Rooster's - Good Cheer | 3.70 | | Lovely citrus hoppy pale gold beer. Perfect for me. |
Batemans - Salem Porter | 4.70 | | Grainy dry roasted bitterness with some caramel. Full in mouth |
03 Jun 2010 (Ian)
Well I hadn't been for a bit and there is a JHB pump clip floating around the bar and it's hard to know if it's been on or coming on and when and just sometimes I do give up with this pub. Anyway the Dr Loosen Riesling on the Wine Festival is excellent.
Phoenix - Double Gold | 5.00 | | Diacetyl on aroma. Better after that but still I struggled to even get towards the bottom of a half. |
Leeds - Midnight Bell | 4.80 | | I only got this because a friend in Scotland says how good it is. Diacetyl bomb. Hated it. Which is a shame as I like Leeds as a beer drinking city. |
13 May 2010 (Ian)
Been on a bit of a Cava odyssey the past few days so not been in pubs. As much as I don't find this place comfortable it is still the best chance of finding something interesting in Ashford.
Otter - Otter Mild | 3.80 | | Brilliant mild, slight bit of choc, some dry malt and touch of sting on tongue on finish. Brilliant really drinkable mild |
27 Apr 2010 (ChrisE)
A good selection of ales on today, many of them of were from the recent beer festival, and some interesting beers labelled as "coming soon".
Shepherd Neame - Goose Island Honkers Ale | 4.20 | | |
10 Apr 2010 (Ian)
Popped in at lunchtime hoping the Trashy Blond would be on, but it wasn't
Banks's - Maui Brewery Coconut Porter | 5.00 | | Still really good. |
Springhead - Spring Chicken | 4.50 | | Gold, lasting thin white head. It's an ok golden ale very under powered in flavour, has some vague citrus fruit and hop but does nto taste of very much. Bit like sex in a canoe. |
09 Apr 2010 (Ian)
After sitting for 40 minutes outside of Ashford on a train cos there wasn't a platform free I needed a beer, so drank quite a lot in a short space of time.
Titanic - Tomahawk | 5.00 | | Lasted maybe 6 minutes for a pint to be honest, still love the hops, malts could be better. |
Banks's - Maui Brewery Coconut Porter | 5.00 | | I shouldn't like it but I do, love the malts, the coconut and the finish especially. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Val-Dieu Abbaye Blonde | 5.50 | | Car crash in a glass, smells of puke |
07 Apr 2010 (Ian)
First day of festival and my fourth Spoons pub.
Shepherd Neame - Goose Island Honkers Ale | 4.20 | | Great character lots of cheesy Sheps yeast, Decent best bitter, good hop on finish, it's like Sheps Kent's Best but with better hops. |
Moorhouse's - Amber Rambler | 4.80 | | Copper brown colour with lasting dark beige head. Always good condition here. It’s an ok sweetish bitter with some fruit. It’s ok, some biscuit. It’s a lsightly sweet bitter, bit of water on mouthfeel. |
04 Apr 2010 (Ian)
Pre lunchtime pint. Not very busy on Easter Sunday.
Lincolnshire Craft (formerly Tom Wood's) - Harvest Bitter | 4.30 | | Pale brown with a thin lasting white head. Prefectly acceptable drinkable bitter with just a touch of rubber on the flavour. Fine. |
