19:00 visit and my first stop this evening. Came in for three pints of finest and to wish our genial host best regards. As mentioned, an end-of-year meeting of minds as a fellow P&B scribe turned up too? Hoppy New Year to One & All...

Just like any other evening in the Rifle, a good place to get away from ticket only pubs and admission charges to pay for unwanted entertainment. Kentish Ale was sitting at the bar enjoying a few beers before heading off to the Pilot.

19:00 visit. An eventful evening ensued! Started off very quiet, then, Alan presented me with a half bottle of Jameson's, my Xmas draw prize! Then, a 15 strong gang of youngsters piled in on the second pub of their crawl. Xmas had come round again for mine host? One drink each and then there was silence again! The locals then drifted in to "swell" the numbers again including the Poacher, with his newly aquired dog, Butch, a real star, and the Snip too. We stayed until Alan closed up. Good session.

The pub is found in Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1EU.

In Wyatt Street, one of three Goacher's tied pubs. Décor has not been updated for some time, but that adds to the joy of this quiet pub. Light, Mild and Stout on regularly. If you like Goacher's, then come here. Also, if you like a quiet pub with no airs or graces that serves well crafted beers then this is your place. The long standing licensee of nearly 37 years (Alan) left in late February 2015 bringing a phase of the pub to an end. Pub closed for a week then re-opened under new tenants, Matt and Gina who were themselves replaced by Alex and Polly in February 2018. The 3 original handpumps have now become 4. Secluded rear garden. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2016, CAMRA West Kent Pub of the Year 2016, CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2016.

We have visited this pub 595 times, seen 11 different beers and tried them all.
