Cleaner and more comfortable than it was in its Head of Steam days, but also far less adventurous with its beer selection – although, obviously, this is now based on Fullers beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Bengal Lancer5.00ExcellentGolden in colour with typical Fullers biscuit malt overlaid by decent but not intrusive hops. A rare ‘British’-type IPA as opposed to an American Pale Ale.
Harviestoun - Ruck and Maul3.70AcceptableA golden-coloured beer with a good balance of malt and hops.

A quiet Tuesday afternoon, a nice place to enjoy a pint in peace. A very good selection of beers was on offer, it was a pity that I only had time for one of them.

A typical busy Friday evening. Unfortunately they have changed the lock on the lavatory door again, and I had to walk back up the stairs to find the new entry code.

For some unknown reason, the national rail service won't allow me to go out one day and return again to Queen's Park in London from Ashford using the underground only in London. So I ended up at Euston waiting for an overground train to Queen's Park. Nil desperandum. I enjoyed it here, a dozen or so drinkers in at midday on a Saturday with some Newcastle United fans having a drink on their way to the Emirates.

Formerly the Head of Steam. Fullers have taken over and chnaged the name. Still same pub layout and feel, still heavy on the train memorabilia. Only 4 customers in at 11.30 on my way to the London Drinker festival

Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentPale gold, lasting white head. Most drinkable beer in England for me. Sherberty hop on finish is simply gorgeous.

Very clean and shiny. The woodwork has all been well polished. Still the same interior, but somehow cleaner. 9 beers on including 4 from Fullers, but the clientele was hardly buzzing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale3.80GoodNice sharp hop, bit soapy. Should be sharper though. Bit warm and flabby. Citrus hop is nice if on the soapy side

Fuller's still haven't wrecked it which is the good news. Beer choice could be a bit more risky if anything. Had half an hour before the London Drinker festival started and they had the Fuller's London Porter on draught which I have been looking for all winter.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Porter5.40ExceptionalBlack beer with beige head. Lots of burnt malts. What is impressive is the mouth feel and the fruit. Velvety/grainy, full, intense flavours. Damsons, plums, prunes. Then a harsh, burnt finish, tempered by choc and more dark fruits. Stunning beer.

First time that I have been in since Fullers took over. Only 3 Fullers beers on and they've kept Holts Bitter and beers from Cottage, Hop Back and Castle Rock. Interior is virtually the same. Only 2 customers in on an early Tuesday lunchtime. Sat in no smoking area, watching the buses at the front of the station
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentPale gold with thin white head. Slightly sweaty hop aroma. However, in mouth, it is stunning. Burst of fresh green hops, slightly dusty and juicy malt/lemon. However, aroma takes it down to just 1 4/5
Castle Rock - Harvest Pale3.80ExcellentExcellent fruit. Good citrus with pear drops, smooth and creamy in mouth with excellent hoppy finish
Cottage - Norman's Conquest 5%5.00ExcellentDeep brown with thin bubbly beige head. Lots of choc liquer favour. Vinous, plums, black cherry fruit. Rich and deep. I can see why so many people make a fuss over this beer. Rich, dark malt aroma. Very intense flavours. Finish has more of the same. Not overly sweet. Could do with bigger handful of hops on the end
Hop Back - GFB (Or Gilbert's First Brew) (superseded by 3.5% version from about 2010)3.80AcceptableIt has been ages since I had this. Golden, thin white head. Slightly nettley farm yardy aroma which to be honest always puts me off. OK in mouth with some grapes, bit wet, not enough body for me. Then dry, dusty hop finish with tingling citrus acids. OK, but not a big fan
